    1. Ability to turn off a beacon radio say at night to reduce unnecessary radiation.

    2. Birds eye view of all devices connected by router/beacon

    • Sukumar Iyer #1 would be hard to implement because then there would be no way for the Beacon to communicate all night. If you’re concerned about it, my recommendation would be to connect the Beacon to an outlet timer.

#2 already exists. Just tap on one of your eero units and then tap on “connected devices” and it shows you all the devices currently connected to that specific eero

    • cMoo92 good feedback. Maybe a timer for radio to switch off? I have one on my bedroom and it is going to radiate me all night unless I unplug it.

I know i can see each device's connection. I was thinking of a tree view of all connections to each device.

I have my eero units plugged into smart outlets that are programmed on timers so they shut down overnight and wake in the morning.

  • Per one of the lead devs, eero nodes were never meant to be turned off or rebooted on a regular basis. It takes up to a week for them to analyze your RF environment and make the best channel adjustments so if you turn them off or reboot them with any frequency they'll never function optimally.

Are you saying they forget what they’ve learned from one session to the next? That’s too bad. I guess it’s a good thing I only have two and they’re both connected by Ethernet, but it seems to me they should be smart enough to store their knowledge across restarts. We’d rather not expose ourselves to the EMF radiation while we sleep, especially since none of us are making use of the Internet then.

      Like
  • Apparently they can lose their current "state" when rebooted per their developer which means another x number of days before they re-evaluate and readjust to their environment.

I wouldn't worry about exposing myself to the low wattage output of a router during wake or sleep times. There's no scientific evidence that indicates it's a problem.

jamcycler No but I'd like to see some proper tests run and evidence that whatever they're experiencing is caused by EMF fields generated by a wifi device or system before I take their word that wifi is the cause.

Dahank23 I get the exact same issue with my HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus.  The printer can connect again after I turn off WPA3.  The HP wireless network test results printout from the printer says:

"More than one access point/wireless router has been found that matches your wireless network name (SSID).  If this is not intended, your HP printer may connect to the wrong wireless network.  To avoid this, change your wireless network name (SSID) to be unique."

sudocoder If you have too many devices to make wifi in your home they should only be able to on one name as your home network. For example sudonet.  Then make a strong password hp will have to be plugged into your computer at first to get all the correct information.  Then afterwards you can use it for wifi set up services   hp needs updating every 2 months

  • I notoced when I started enabling the band steering and the optimise for conference calls/gaming, I get a lot of latency/breaks in my conference calls - I don't know which of the 2 is causing this and I don't want to experiment anymore as I literally am on conference calls almost all day. Also, to give other details, my kids are on nintendo switch so these 2 kinds of things are happening at the same time.

Charlotte945   Band Steering has been a BETA feature forever, and I haven't seen much progress on it.    I am not sure it is a really viable feature at this point.

  • When WPA 3 was enabled older iPads had trouble connecting, after multiple reboots to both iPads, EERO’s and turning the WPA 3 on and off it finally connected. The enhanced feature should still allow WPA 2 devices to connect with less difficulty.

    Like
    • Clickermac it does allow older devices to connect, but those older devices still needed to have received software updates from their manufacturers to make them more compatible. This is why the WPA3 is a beta feature—it won’t really work  with all devices for years to come.

      Like
    • cMoo92 I understand that, but obviously the device was backwards compatible since eventually after cycling WPA 3 on and off multiple times it finally connected.

      Like
    • Clickermac my apologies. I misunderstood you. I thought you were saying the iPads didn’t connect back to the network after turning WPA3 *off* until after doing several restarts.

      Like
    • cMoo92 yes on my children’s older iPads I have to turn the WPA 3 off and let it then connect, then when I turn it back on they stay connected. Sometimes it takes 3 or 4 tries.

    • cMoo92 I have had to just turn the WPA 3 off as it has been too frustrating to have to turn it off, log my kids devices on and then turn WPA 3 back on and cross my fingers that it stays connected. I hope eero can fix this as I would like to use WPA 3 for the devices that support it and allow the devices that don’t support it to stay connected via WPA 2.

  • 2.4Ghz only devices are not connecting to the network. It’s really annoying having to call technical support to disable 5Ghz network to connect devices. User should have the privileges to enable or disable bands.

    • Joseluisgf94 device manufacturers should build devices that follow WiFi standards.  They should not be calling the MAC address of the SSID during setup versus SSID name only.

  • Turning on WPA3 caused my Surface Pro (2017) with Win10 to not be able to connect to the network. As soon as I turned WPA3 off, the Surface connected again. No other devices had issues including multiple iPhones, Macs and Windows 7 computers. So looks like I’ll have to leave that feature off for now. But would be nice if you folks can fix it so that the Surface Pro with Win 10 could connect even with WPA3 turned on. That way those devices that can benefit do and those that can’t are still functional.

  • Is anyone else running the beta of iOS14 (specifically iPadOS 14) and noticing issues? I’ve found the new “Private [MAC] Address” feature in the WIFI menu doesn’t work too well with my eero Pro; I maintain a strong signal, but the network connection is slow / non-existent

  • The “Band Steering” in 3.19.0 Beta is not compatible with HP Wireless Printers.

The report (see image) from the HP Printer says “MAC Address Filtering” is the issue. As there is no feature to manage MACs on the EERO, then I had to disable this Beta Band Steering feature completely, which then allowed the HP printer to connect to the WiFi normally.

    • I have also encountered this issue in the months prior to 3.19.0 being released, with an HP M2425dw printer and Band Steering enabled.

  • I need help choosing some type of WiFi extender to provide internet connection in the low/dead spots in my home that is compatible with my eero system

    Like
    • giga_ent You'll want to get another eero unit to expand your range. The wifi extenders that you're thinking of will degrade performance by at least 50% (just because of how wifi works) and likely reduce it by more than that. But by using additional eero units, you'll get the full benefit of their mesh technology and not notice a performance impact.

cMoo92 okay so I just buy another one of the beacons and call you guys to add it ?  I ask this because I may have my system hooked up incorrectly. I’m not sure if the four beacons are leveled equally for optimal performance

      Like
    • giga_ent first off, let me clarify that I’m not an eero employee—just a happy customer. Secondly, you already have 5 eero units? How big is your home?

      Like
  • I don’t know how you guys do it, but eero caches DNS just great (it’s own DNS relay works fantastically) until you ENABLE the DNS caching. Then everything goes out the window, and it’s slower than 1.1.1.1. It can’t be this difficult.

    • Bosoxfr10 I'm sorry to hear that you've been experiencing this! This definitely sounds like unexpected behavior, as eero Labs will not cause your eeros to heat up or restart.

I'd be more than happy to have a specialist look into this further. Can you please email support@eero.com with some more information about the situation? If you put "Community Followup" in the subject line, I'll be able to get eyes on it ASAP!

    Eve Extend 20EAB9901; firmware version 1.1 (410)

  • First of all, I want to say that I LOVE Eero Secure. It’s great to be able to proactively block known ads and adware before they even hit a client device.

    Feature Request:

Please block new devices when they are joined to the network by default. I have kids that like to try to spoof MAC addresses so they can connect to the wireless network and circumvent the Family Profiles in the process.

ddhuntsman So, if you mean you would like to be able to manage via profiles what device uses a specific band (2.4GHz vs 5GHz), then that could be a cool granular feature. But, that kind of defeats the whole 802.11s mesh networking and roaming standard. It might be a good idea to reach out to the manufacturer to find out if they a firmware update available or submit a support request to see if they can better support mesh networking and roaming via future firmware update.

JasonTaylor eero Secure for $2,99 a month or $29 yr already does this. It’s filters based on MAC addresses. So, when iOS 14 comes out with Private IP support. You will have to keep a watchful eye on “New Device on Network.” Also, if you are having problems with MAC address spoofing on your network, you will need to be vigilant of eero app notifications for new devices on the network.

  • Bandwidth steering is great. I've noticed less lag when gaming. It's still there every once in a while. Is there an option to specify a priority for bandwidth? The main TV seems to get less bandwidth than the other devices. Odd
