  • I turned on eero lab optimization feature for conferencing and gaming, within a minute my Ring alarm sent me a notice that it was on cellular backup and not using the internet.  I turned the feature off, and also within a minute my ring alarm connectivity was restored.

it appears that one of the devices where bandwidth is being limited is my ring devices.   EERO allows devises to be associated to catagories.  Is there a way to white list a device so that bandwidth is not gated by the optimization feature?

  • Would love a feature that notified me if a device uses over a certain threshold in a 24 hours period. Comcast limits me to 1,229GB/month or I have to pay extra. With the whole family home all the time, it’s surprising how quickly that data can be chewed up. I just hopped on the eero app and saw a Roku that went rogue and has used 75GB in the last 24 hours. It’s supposed to shut off after 4 but obviously didn’t.

Although this was a Roku issue, I’d love to have my eero system notify me of rogue devices so I can address them if needed.

  • Content filtering should allow a default restriction level and then relax that for certain profiles. This is the opposite of how it works today. Use case: kids add their friend's phones and because they are not on a profile they have full access to content.

  • Three should be a way to list devices that are not in a profile.

  • I'm disappointed that the lease time is set at 4 hours with no option to increase the time. I have 25+ devices on my network... They all need to reconnect every 4 hours? I've been having eero outages every day since I set it up a week ago, even during work video conferences.

  • I agree, it would be cool if the lease time were adjustable. However, I feel with most consumers, such a feature would be rarely used. Pertaining to your random outage issue - DHCP is most likely not the offender. When a DHCP renewal occurs, there is no transient disconnection at the stack level, there is only an agreement between the node and DHCP server to continue (as is). I would first take a look at the hardware itself. Are any of your mesh nodes consistently warm to the touch?

zer0systems thank you for offering to help troubleshoot :). I have only one eeros device, and it is connected directly to the cable modem. I've only had it for a few days now. Yesterday, the outage occurred again. The only way to fix it is to reboot both the modem and eeros. (ie, rebooting the eeros alone did not help).

  • I would like a system where I can have my guest Devices connect to to home devices that I choose (eg: My Apple TV is on the home network, My iPad is on the Guest Network I want to get AirPlay to work without switching networks) Like how they have it on Google Nest Wifi. Overall I love eero!

    Like
    • WiseSteve you should be able to set your Apple TV to allow airplay from devices not on your network. It uses Bluetooth and wifi to automatically/magically create a direct connection between the iPad and Apple TV without them being on the same wifi network. Should be in the AirPlay settings on the Apple TV.

  • Tried the WPA3 setting. It worked well with all of my devices except for one: a Wemo smart plug. It’s less than a year old so I assumed it would work, but it could not find the network no matter what I tried. I’ve had trouble with Wemo in the past though, so I’m assuming it’s their cheap hardware that’s the issue, not the eero.

    • Hello t-brace ,

I wonder if the Wemo smart plug is 2.4GHz only. Have you tried temporarily hiding 5GHz to see if the Wemo smart plug can connect up that way? Also, if you are using an eero 6 network you may also want to try legacy mode as well. Legacy Mode can be found in Settings -> Troubleshooting.

  • I have been using Eero for over a year now and it's been fantastic so far. Except this week I found certain devices running slow (like under 1mbs slow). Testing speed in Eero app showed 60mbps so I eventually turned off Eero labs features I had on (bandwidth steering and DNS cache) and this fixed it.

Meerkat23 i have the exact same problem and always have. If i let my pc idle, the speed may go down to 2mb/s but i know for a fact im getting a steady 221mb/s. I have to turn off wifi on my pc, switch it back on and it goes back full speed. Not only that, but recently, doing a speed test on my iphone it only shows around 24mb/s whereas it used to show the full speed i get. I was going to wait and see if an update sorted this, but it’s really “doing my head in” now!!!

    • Hello Adams ,

Thank you for reaching out to us here! Slow speeds can be difficult to resolve and we can help you get this fixed. Most speed issues are resolved by a few common steps. Make sure the eeros are not behind a double NAT, make sure the eeros are placed optimally around the home (See the article below), perform a soft reset on the Gateway eero (See the article below), and check if there are any damaged ethernet cords. If you go through all three of those steps are are still experiencing this speed behavior please let me know or give our support a call and we can help you troubleshoot.

  • WPA3 caused me some real headaches for a few months.

What I observed with two iPhones 11 Pro and one iPhone X:

The devices would get silently booted from the WiFi network, but the Cell network, despite being weak, would automatically kick in, allowing my family to quickly burn through our Cell data plan for 2 months while we were mostly at home before I figured out it was WPA3 that was the problem.

Interesting tidbit: trying to rejoin would fail with a message about being unable to join the network.   However, if we toggled "Private Address" on/off, the change to WiFi MAC would enable re-joining, until booted with that MAC, and needing to toggle again, etc...    Also, turning on "Private Address" isn't good for the Profiles, etc, so I want it off for my family's devices on our home network.

I'm so happy I finally figured out the problem was WPA3.  Since turning WPA3 off, my network of 4 eero Pros (B010001) has been working well again.

  • Turned on WPA3.  Out of 14 devices, only the two iPhone XS switched to using WPA3.  Both iPhone XS have iOS 14.7.1 and are 256 GB.  This worked for about 12 hours then the iPhones would no longer connect to the eero wifi.  Put the iPhones in airport mode then back into normal comms mode.  No connection. Turned off iPhones then back on, still would not connect.  I did not reset the network on the iPhones.  Pulled the power plug on the main eero router and still no connection. Turned off WPA3 in the eero app via iPad Pro running iPadOS 14.7.1 which never connected via WPA3 and both iPhones immediately connected.

Two out of three purchased eero routers are online with the second eero bridged via Ethernet.  May try again later to determine a better time estimate before disconnects occur and see if resetting iPhone networks or one or both eero routers have any effect.

  • As soon as I enabled WPA3 my Meross outdoor smart plug stopped working. I flashed it and tried to re-add it, no dice. I tried adding my older ihome outdoor smart plug and it wouldn’t pair. When I disabled wpa3, they worked fine. I could add them through the apple home app without issue.

  • So when I first installed the system I had a handful of Meross smart plug minis that moved over from my tp-link deco system. But when I tried to pair new ones they wouldn’t connect. I turned off WPA3 and they connected just fine. I turned it back on and all those same plugs disconnected. The other ones still reconnected and showed backwards compatible and connected wpa2. I’m not sure if this because of the amount of  Devi Ed I’m running. I like the security feature, but can’t use it right now.

  • The band steering is a bit of a failure in my opinion. It'd be amazing to have the ability to throttle it live with some cool user friendly interface.

    • Hello David ,

There might be some confusion in regards to what band steering does. Band Steering just delays the connection response from 2.4GHz to allow devices time to connect to the 5GHz bandwidth. I think what you are referring to is SQM, Smart Queue Management, or network traffic shaping. You can read more about our version of SQM in the link below.

James On that note, any word on when the 6 is going to get SQM? That's a big part of the reason I bought it, and your documentation does not indicate that it's not available on the 6.

    • Hello Calion ,

I wanted to reply to this question separately just in case people found this message through a search. SQM is still being optimized for the eero 6 line of eeros and we do not currently have a timeline on when it will be released. I apologize for the inconvenience.

  • Seems WPA3 kicks off devices that don’t support the standard.. despite the text by the option stating “for devices that support the WPA3 standard. Doesn’t indicate it will turn off WPA2. Is there a way it isn’t an all-or-nothing option so that all devices can be supported?

    • Hello Cristian ,

In my experience it is usually the device that ends up being the decider on whether or not it stays connected to a network. It is also important to remember that the WPA3 feature in the eero app is still a beta feature that is still be optimized. We would like to look into this for you if you have time to reach out to support so we can gather information about the device or devices that are experiencing difficulty accessing the network while WPA3 is enabled and look into this on the backend for you. If you would like you give us a call you can use the link below to locate the best number to call. If you would like to troubleshoot over email, please follow the directions that I will be direct messaging you shortly.

James Hi thanks for your reply. Totally aware it’s in beta which is why I pass feedback so it can be looked into before alpha.

Long story short; turn off WPA3 I am able to connect my AppleTV Gen3 to the network. Turn on WPA3, AppleTV Gen3 says my password is wrong before I’m even given an opportunity to type it in. SSID still seen. This indicates to me on a high-level that issue is down to authentication.

    • Hello Cristian ,

Good to know that disabling WPA3 allowed your devices to connect to your network. If you have time, I would like to get additional information about the devices you experienced the drops with WPA3 enabled on your network. Can you send me an email so I can verify your account and gather more information about the devices that were experiencing this?

    • Hello Calion ,

I would like to get your device information as well. I will send you direct message on how to get that information to me. But keep in mind that everything that cMoo82 said is true. Some older devices are just not going to be able to support WPA3 or connected to a network that has WPA3 enabled on it. Something to keep in mind is that you do not need WPA3 enabled to use Optimize for Conferencing and Gaming to be enabled. I will send you that information on out to get that information to me soon over Direct Message.

James I understand that older devices can't connect via WPA3. But I don't understand why they can't connect via WPA2 if the network has WPA3 enabled.

    • Hello Calion ,

I understand that this can be frustrating. This can be a very difficult topic to understand. I will share some information from our knowledge base article that explains this a little better.

      Issues to watch out for

Even though transition mode is designed to support WPA2 and WPA3 simultaneously, our testing has revealed interoperability issues with some legacy devices. We would like to highlight a few of the interoperability symptoms we have encountered to help prepare you for some behavior you may experience:

      1. Clients appear to be associated using WPA2 but cannot get an IP address because the DHCP client on the connected device is not responding to incoming packets from the eero APs
      2. The eero network appears as an “Open” network, preventing clients from connecting
      3. When attempting to connect to the eero network from a list of available wifi networks, the client device is unable to connect
      4. Client devices display an 'incorrect password' error when attempting to connect
      5. Client devices switch continuously between WPA2 and WPA3 and ask for the password every time

If you notice a device isn’t able to connect after turning on WPA3 or if you're seeing other symptoms mentioned above, you may need to update that device to the latest available software or use an updated device if available. We recommend contacting the device manufacturer for any devices that have difficulty connecting when WPA3 is enabled.

      Known Problematic Devices

Below are some of the devices or software versions may have compatibility issues with WPA3.

      • Devices using Apple iOS 12.2 (newer versions of iOS work correctly)
      • Chamberlain MyQ Garage Door Opener

This can be found in our article that goes over WPA3. Here is the link if you would like to see the full article: https://support.eero.com/hc/en-us/articles/360042523671-What-is-WPA3-

I understand that this is not a resolution to the behavior you are experiencing. But iOS 10 devices, from everything I have found on the subject, are not able to join WPA3 networks even if those networks have a transitional mode that supports some WPA2 connections while WPA3 is active like what the eero offers. You can also find more information regarding this in this link: https://support.apple.com/guide/security/protocol-security-sec8a67fa93d/web

Hi James . The KB article seems to contradict the experience of multiple people: I reported about a month ago in this thread problems with iPhones 11 Pro and one iPhone X which were on iOS 14 (whatever the latest was at the time).  I'd bet that Adams  who wrote two weeks ago about problems with IPhones X, 11, and SE2 was also using post-iOS 12.2 on his devices (the SE2 only supports iOS 13+, so we can be positive about that one).  It seems that devices using even recent versions of iOS still have problems with WPA3.

  • Ive actually given up with having wpa3 enabled. My iPhones would be continuously booted off and find it very hard to reconnect  ( iPhones X, 11 & se2 ). My laptop download speed would run slow. And a few other things at times. It’s so odd??!!?
having it disabled, gives me full speed via wifi again (538mb/s)

  • With advanced security enabled in eero secure, local dns caching in eero labs will disappear.  One advanced security is disabled, local dns caching option reappears. I hope this will be fixed with an update. It would be nice if the local dns caching was grayed out and had a disclaiming like in dns settings in the network settings.
