I might be asking for a lot.  But I’m trying to advance my home network a bit and there are several featured I wish I had so I didn’t have to buy more equipment.

I wish a more sophisticated firewall was available.   I need the ability to do some more specific content filtering and would be nice to get some logging reports.

I need to create some VLAN’s.   Would be nice if you guys had a managed switch.

I know this is more advanced stuff.  But maybe having products that were a little more advanced as an option for purchase would be beneficial.

danoutlaw3 Most home users do not require vlans.  However, eero may enter that phase.  Netgear and Linksys does offer managed switches.  As you mentioned, you are looking for enterprise network gear.

Sdworman I agree however with many people moving into working at home I see this being a much more needed thing in the future.

danoutlaw3 well, I am a network engineer and do not find a need for this.  Most people working form home are not the engineers.  When they do work from home, the networks they need access to are accessed over a VPN connection.

I do understand that if you want to setup a network with switching, routing, and a firewall.  This is not the audience eero/Amazon is serving on a whole.  They are too busy integrating the Ring security and eero and concentrating on the "SMART" technologies.

You never know, they may enter the competitive enterprise network market....  After all, Google is pushing fiber networks to homes....  It's all exciting times...

Sdworman to your point though with the Smart stuff.  Isn’t it recommended that these items, security cameras, etc be separate from your LAN.  If that’s the case wouldn’t a VLAN be the most practical application?   I’m not a networking engineer I took the wrong road in my career path too many years ago,  but I try to learn a lot about networking.

For me specifically I might have a switch to a work from home job.  My wife works from home and works for the GOVT.  I really want to create VLANs so none of these different walks of life intertwine.  Yes we will both work off VPN’s but I still don’t feel comfortable having my kid’s Nintendo switch on the same network as my wife’s govt laptop if that makes sense.

but agreed this is probably more than I should expect from eero.

danoutlaw3 yes, you are correct.  To setup and segment your network, you would separate these devices like they would at an office environment using vlans.  This just makes it more complicated since the cameras, and other smart devices rely on the internet to get back to the vendor's cloud environment.  Also, an environment at home is so much smaller and would not really justify this.

Hey, if you want to set this up at home, go for it.  I will mention that you need to review the smart devices you have and make sure passwords and other security measures are set correctly.  It really comes down to these devices and how each one is secure.  When you access these remotely, use a vpn connection to do so.  I cannot recommend any, but there are some, I even think eero has a 3rd party you could use when accessing these devices.  Passwords are key.  use unique passwords...

These are just a few tips.  Good luck..

Some problems with the eero lab features are one WP3 has been a big issue. Some devices that support WP3 have some problems connecting. When WP3 is enabled it would take multiple restarts and resets of that device for it to connect. When WP3 is off, the device connects fine. Next, when WP3 is enabled, the device will sometimes become slow or sluggish when it's off it is fine. When optimized for conferencing and gaming is turned on, the network will become slow and it takes forever for some websites to load I hope that the optimize network for conferencing and gaming can analyze what devices are connected like light bulbs, smart thermostats, etc. And if those devices don't need high speeds but need low latency that it can optimize it that way similar to how the plume wifi devices work were they use smart AI to detect? This is a light bulb. It doesn't need fast speeds but it needs lower latency. It does that you know. Maybe it's a gaming computer. It will need low latency and high speed. Something like that.

Your SQM implementation is broken. When disabled, upload bufferbloat is near zero, whereas if it is enabled, i see in excess of +50ms ping in the bufferbloat tests. I can confirm it wasn't a one off, tested 3 times each when SQM was enabled and disabled. Eero 6 for reference.

    SQM Off

    SQM On

A quick Google search clearly shows this isn't a one off, when will you get round to fixing this?

IIHydraII it's called optimize for gaming and video conferencing. That's the SQM you're referring to but the thing is that I want the SQM to work differently The slow speeds is what it's supposed to do so it's limiting speeds to certain devices so the other devices can have better connection and performance. Not one device is hogging up the bandwidth.

will1234go I know how SQM works, otherwise i wouldn't have referred to it as that. The issue is, it almost seems that the options are reversed and the SQM is disabled when enabled and vice versa, based on  the levels of bufferbloat. For ex, when it was enabled, i was seeing up to 50ms ping spike when under load, whereas it was basically unaffected (0-5ms) when it was disabled.

IIHydraII great feedback.  This is beta, so not prime time.  This is a community, not EERO support.  Contact support and let them know your findings.

IIHydraII I am not sure, but at least a year.  Anything in eero Labs is beta.  There is also a "Send Feedback" button in the app.

IIHydraII I fully agree with you. The SQM setting of 'Off' provides a much better result - as if the settings are reversed (off = on).

Before moving to Eero I used Unifi equipment. With SQM on I would get almost no buffer bloat, but without it bufferbloat was high as you would expect.

Complete opposite with the Eero 6+ which is strange.

The WPA3 settings caused a MyQ smart hub to disconnect from my WiFi and prevented me from reconnecting.

Everything worked great until I tried to connect my printer. My HP 8610 printer. Nothing in your directions helps and following HP's direction always fails. Can you please help?

When this was turned on, my Chrome browser did not work on my MacBook Air. When I switched WiFi to my Verizon MiFi card, boom worked fine.  Then I reconnected to the Eero WOW WiFi and not working until I toggled this feature off, then worked fine again.

Port Forwarding - it would be nice to have a switch to enable/disable a port forward instead of having to delete the entry if you need to disable it for security.

    Hi

    I would love these features

    1. Easy way to change default gateway IP to some other than one ending in '.1' , ie 10.0.0.125

    2. Ability to toggle 2.4ghz and 5ghz off

    3. Option to choose seperate SSIDs for 2.4/5ghz

    4. Web interface for the router screens (not so important)

    5. Channel selection for wifi Bands

I've noticed that when running a speed test from dslreports or fast.com I always get a better bufferbloat result with 'Optimise for video conferencing' and gaming turned off!

With previous systems I've owned such as Unifi - I would get better ping times under load when SQM was enabled.

I thought that SQM should have a positive effect on buffer bloat tests, not make it worse, unless the way that "Optimise for video conferencing and gaming" is implemented on the Eero works a bit differently.
