  • I've been experiencing a lot of buffering on my laptops, phones, and iPad. Before I was only experiencing this while streaming FuboTv shows, and occasionally a Netflix movie. I thought eero was supposed to rectify my connectivity problems.

SEAD Have you tried enabling "Optimize for Conferencing & Gaming" in eero Labs? This should help balance out the available bandwidth over devices on your network.

  • So I enabled band steering but my computer is still defaulting to 2g and on Zoom telling me my internet is unstable - my provider says there are no problems - is there any possibility to make sure my computer connects to 5g? Before I purchased my eero my computer stayed at 5g.

Lizzykat You might need to move the eero node closer to your computer. If your computer has an ethernet port, it would be best to wire it in to an eero node to rule out the wireless on the computer entirely. I have done this for gaming PCs in the past and it makes a huge difference. If coverage is already limited, consider purchasing an additional eero to fill in the weak spot (and wire in your computer to).

Velile Add HP printer to device then get new code from HP.  This is the only way I  was able to  connect online then print.

  • WPA3 was working fine before the latest firmware update, seems as if after the update multiple devices would continue to drop off and reconnect to the network. All of my Nest devices seem to be affected the most by this.

  • Where is the option "Smart Queue Management"? It seems to be the closest thing to an option of not letting one device hog all of the bandwidth.

  • So my wireless printer was working fine and today no matter what I do it will not print. It shows that it’s connected to the network and the troubleshooter cannot find any problems and I restarted it and rebooted it and added it back to the network. So why does this happen? Then it disconnects to the network. No problems before  I bought my eero.

Lunakorat  - How would changing the password to my network affect connectivity? It has always stayed connected before I purchased my eero - just like my computer always stayed at 5g and now most often connects at 2.5.  It is frustrating and I don't think I will recommend eero to my friends - I might suggest they try a different mesh system since my internet provider has upgraded in my area which hopefully will help the Zoom connectivity issues. I want to love my new eero...and I have only had problems since I bought it.

Lizzykat Lunakorat - So even though I wrote all that I did (out of frustration from the time it takes to correct things that were not malfunctioning before) I will try your suggestion and see if  there is any drop off if I can get it to print! Thanks

Lizzykat Lizzykat I’ve had nothing but bother Thai afternoon with mine and managed to get to the bottom of it, I have had to disabled the WPA3 in the labs. Try this

    • Lunakorat using special characters like that in your password won’t help anything—and actually might cause problems with some devices.

Lizzykat definitely turn off anything in Labs if you have previously enabled. WPA3 and band steering are the most common settings that cause issues with printers.

Lizzykat if you downloaded the app for EERO, go to settings, set up name of name of your device you can make it any name.  Then set up a new password.  EERO will send you a code to confirm that your device is set up correctly.

I had a similar issue with a printer check if you have WPA3 enabled under Discover/eero Labs. Turning off WPA3 resolved my printer connection issue.

TSchenck Any devices that have been seen using 5Ghz will be added to the list. Unless you have a stationary device right on the edge of the network coverage then maybe it will not make the Band Steering list.

pakiriffic What device is this happening on? eeros will not drop clients unless it is overheating (30+ Celsius) or is overloaded with too many clients (think over 100 per node). Otherwise, roaming decisions are completely up to the client device. Maybe try spacing out your nodes a bit more?

  • Hello, I'm sure I don't say as much as I should, I'm personally self taught in my many little hobbies and work, which i feel certain this has been brought up before, but I dont see whst harm it would do to mention the heating problem with the main and minis, I'm sure little heatsinkss and all are cute solutions but I'm afraid 👎 No, it would be a bandaid to a bullet wound. These things have gotten and can get nearly so hot that holding it in your hands would burn you, Now aside from that being just horrible since when has any pc or components enjoyed high temps to get the most from our systems? We don't, we cool them? Or am I incorrect? But do keep in mind I recall a photo I took of one being around 15 degrees from being a lagitament fire hazard. Wish I was joking but, heat sinks will not cover it, ive taken into account the build of the eero and cracked one open and ran little fan with a heatsink and thermal paste all that good stuff and talk about night and day difference where I was pushing at most around 820, I managed to get to 997 speeds which was nice,  figured id take it to a new level and used a liquid cooling unite I had laying around, cut the hose and made it into an open loop water cooled unit (and yes for the fun lf it ran some RGB around the base of it and it looked exactly how you'd probably imagine, but I can tell you i could have passed that 1GBps easily, so their is alot of potential for these little guys as we as extending the range, which really was just getting it higher then a foot socket. Anywho I hope this help or at most maybe entertains some1 till next time

  • With band steering On it cause my iPad Mini (3rd Gen) to only pick up the 2.4 GHz on eero. Beacons. Essentially making it useless because the  2.4 Ghz is very crowded here and the Eero uses band 1 which has about 18 users ... Erro will nor use the 6 or 11 channel that only has 2 users each ???

Ede How long has Band Steering been enabled? Once it connects once via 5Ghz, eero will favour that preference when the device roams or rejoins the network. Keep in mind if you are outside of 5Ghz range then it will still fallback to 2.4Ghz, which has much better penetration.

  • Love the eero, I’ve used mine for several years without complaint. I would love to see a few feature tho:

    1. IoT devices: A setting for a device that prevents that device from seeing my LAN but allows internet access. That way, if a device is compromised, it cannot be used to access anything else on my LAN. Also prevents IoT devices from “sniffing” other traffic on my LAN. Ideally, would alert if a device started acting strangely (communicating on new ports, etc) so it could be disabled. Bonus if home automation LAN traffic like HomeKit could be allowed.

    2. Inbound IPv6 routing: allow inbound IPv6 traffic. Since outbound IPv6 traffic is supported, this should be a router-level setting.

    3. Overall traffic: A way to see how much traffic is going out/coming in.

      1. Use the Guest network feature

2, eero Help doesn’t say much about iPv6 support here: https://support.eero.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005975026

      3. Check that at ISP level if you are trying to monitor internet bandwidth. Otherwise, use a managed switch that can monitor network traffic and provide metrics

  • WPA3 support is a fantastic idea, but I noticed it prevents my HP Envy 4500 printer from connecting to the wireless network. It connects fine when WPA3 support is disabled. Perhaps there are some issues with backwards compatibility?

  • I had problems connecting an LG TV and a Chromecast. I tried disabling 5 ghz via the troubleshooting screen and it worked temporarily until 5 ghz was re-enabled. I searched around and found a suggestion that disabling beam steering would work on reddit, which I tried and it worked for me. Seems like beam steering still has a lot of compatibility issues.

    • DaMosesofBeer I’m guessing you probably turned on WPA3. Turn that off and your printer should connect again. If you didn’t turn on WPA3, it might be the band steering option.

  • Love the Eero setup and absolutely love the beta/lab/advanced features! I've almost forgotten how frustrating pre erro life was when I had to fight opernwrt every month or two.

I do have two recommendations for beta/lab/advanced features.

    1. It would be absolutely extraordinary if we had a way to set custom ad block rules, or simply create/edit dns records while local caching is enabled. That way if we have a need to block a specific domain, we can simply make it resolved to 0.0.0.0.

    2. Is simply the reporting piece of #1. Some type of visibility into the dns resolutions occuring. Could be real time while monitoring or just a short 5 minute window, wouldn't need to be historic records stored in a DB.

Anyway love everything about eero, you guys/gals have created an extraordinary solution to the covid wifi headaches that many of us faced several months ago. For that, thank you!

    Solved all my wifi headaches.

    Nice one.

But......I like stats, so would love more info on that, I see there's lots of discussion already so I'll leave it there.

  • Smart queue feature does not work well, I have a streaming based TV service and if the xbox, a tablet, or a phone starts a download all streaming services start buffering. Previous modem had a QoS so I could protect the signal to the boxes. Would be nice to have a form of QoS or be able to limit how much bandwidth a device can use.
