Eero automatically blocking access to needed web sites and services

I have a repeating problem with my Eero network. There are, at times, websites or outside web services that I need to access, but Eero blocks them.

This is WITHOUT me running Eero secure or any other blocks on my end. Eero simply chooses not to allow access.  I'm sorry, but this is total B.S.

Eero should not have a say in any outside sites I access. None. Not unless I ask for the block.

And no, this is not to access porn or some other crud; today, the current problem is my new Chamberlain/LiftMaster MyQ account server (my garage door opener and garage smart camera). I can connect just fine with LTE data. I can also connect using my back up wifi router when I plug it in to the same cable modem.  But when I try to connect through my Eero wifi, I cannot reach the server.  It's blocked.  This is unacceptable.

When you go into Eero Secure, make sure that Advanced Security and Ad Blocking are both turned off. Make sure there are no content filters or apps or websites blocked unintentionally. The first two should fix the error otherwise.

LJ I can confirm that turning off "Advanced Security" solved an issue where eero was blocking access to my gmail account using imap in Apple Mail. It only became an issue after I set up a profile for the computer - even with NO content filters created and no block/allow lists, apparently the "advanced security" kicked in with the profile setup and started blocking gmail imap access. Turning Advanced Security off fixed this issue.

Can I just say that this seems pretty daft? Is there some security issue I'm unaware of with accessing gmail using standard protocols?

Has anyone else figured out this issue? I upgraded to an eero Pro 6 and now my Synology NAS is having trouble accessing the internet. eero seems to be blocking it. I don't have eero secure. I've tried updating the DNS servers and port forwarding (which is only relevant for eternal access). Nothing works.

iamtmo This has been my experience. Eero will block the camera on a MyQ garage door opener. Then it allows it, then blocks it... And of course because there is no insight into what's being blocked, I have no idea if the camera has been hacked, or if it's a false positive.

How to block everything (all incoming and outgoing internet access) except those applications are in firewall white-list?

You can use another router instead of Eero?  Do you think my old talktalk one would work. Or can it be fitted as a network range exrptender if I duplicate the network settings.  Or are Eero so “special” they only work with themselves; it wouldn’t work with my tp range extender

We have a user affected by this. They can access to our main website siftmo.com but not to our app subdomain app.siftmo.com.  Jennifer_eero_support would it be possible to whitelist our domain on your end? Thanks!

What's funny is Eero directs emails about this to this forum, and they have not been active here for quite a while. It's a nice system they setup for themself.

Solved!  I was having problems with linking to a shopping site (Sonos) from a points shopping referral site (Advantage shopping).  I would get the error that the site cannot be accesses and Safari gave me the URL that was failing.

I figured out what the referral domain site is that was failing and white listed the domain in the eero app (eero secure / advance settings / block & allow sites).  I then tried the link again and poof!....it worked!  No need to use the guest network or turn off eero secure to access the site.

For those of you who might not know, "white listing" is the act of giving your network permission to access a domain that might otherwise be blocked for whatever suspected reason (security, inappropriate content, etc.).  Use this process selectively since some sites might be blocked for a very good reason...they really are bad!

I work online and I tried logging in to my website and it says

    Nooooo.

The site you are trying to visit is not secure.

Hackers compromise your safety by installing dangerous programs onto your device, allowing them to steal your personal information such as credit cards, passwords, messages, or photos. Not on our watch.

How do  fix this issue I have tried everything!!!!! to unpluggin my internet to re installing chrome etc.. nothing works so I think its an issue with my firewall but not sure how to fix it Help plz ?

Mammabear1989xox In the advanced settings in the app, you should see an option to whitelist certain domains.  If the site you're going to is known to you and legit, you can whitelist the domain and that will let you past the security settings eero has in place.

This is so weird and frustrating.

I’m having this as well. I can’t get to google.com but other sites work fine.

I don’t have eero secure but I did have the trial. It worked fine while I was on the trial but seems to be broken now.

I can work around by using the guest network but that shouldn’t be necessary.

    Any other ideas?

I was struggling with random http sites being "blocked" for weeks. I think I found an ACTUAL solution (no whitelisting / guest networks). It wasn't so much that eero was "blocking" sites, as my modem-router combo from my ISP wasn't configured correctly to work with a 3rd party router. This resulted in my internet mostly working, with the more than occasional, extremely frustrating, "blocked" website.

If you have an ISP that uses PPPoE (fancy term for your router requires a special username and password to access the internet, i.e. CenturyLink fiber) you need to do a few things to get your eero network setup correctly.

    1. Find your PPPoE username and password, and write it down somewhere for later. If you lose it, you'll have to call your ISP customer support to get it back (NOTE: this is NOT the same as your ISP account username and password). For me, I went to my router settings webpage > advanced settings > the PPPoE username and password were listed in plain text.

    2. (double check that you saved your PPPoE username and password somewhere BEFORE doing this) In the same settings page, you should see some kind of option for switching modes from PPoE to "Transparent Bridging" mode. Select "Transparent Bridging" mode, and let your router restart fully if it wants to.

    3. (Maybe not necessary) Factory Reset all your Eero routers to wipe away any obscure settings you changed in your desperate attempt to get your expensive new mesh wifi network working.

    3. Follow these special instructions from Eero https://support.eero.com/hc/en-us/articles/5382599417371-PPPoE-Setup-Instructions to setup a new Eero network using PPPoE.

After I made these configuration changes to my router, and setup a new Eero network selecting PPPoE, my internet has been great. Before this change, my Eeros couldn't even successfully update themselves. After, they updated successfully on the first attempt. I've yet to stumble upon a website that was "blocked".

I hope this wall-o-text helps somebody else out there.

    Good luck all!

      centuryLinkFiberEeroUser Important note!:
In step one, I mention a router settings page. I'm referring to the router-modem that came from my ISP (centurylink) NOT the eero settings app. You can usually find this settings page by looking for it on your mode/router's sticker. It will probably be an IP address (192.168.0.1 is a common one). Type that IP address into your web browser. Then use the username and login that was hopefully printed next to the settings IP address on your router/modem.

      DISCLAIMER:
This settings page can do a lot of stuff that will break your internet. Don't just go clicking random stuff in there.

      centuryLinkFiberEeroUser Important note number2!:
After you switch your router-modem to "Transparent Bridging" mode, you're internet will stop working until your Eero network gets setup.

In theory, if you need to switch your "normal" internet back on, you can do so by switching your router-modem back to PPPoE mode, and entering the username-pasword you saved from step 1.

The best feature of the eero is its design -- unobstrusive, small footprint, blends into the wall.  It looks pretty.

The worst feature of the eero is that it is not a router! It is a router that routes only when it feels like it! I tried all of the solutions mentioned here. Yesterday, I finally just unplugged the satellite eero and that seemed to finally let me access all the websites I needed to. Tonight, suddenly it decides that it no longer wants me to access google.com -- yup, it was blocking me from google.com. After an hour, of switching back and forth between regular and guest mode and rechecking everything on the cumbersome eero app, it suddenly decided it was okay to let me access google again!

I just purchased this 16 days ago. For the first week, it seemed fine.  Then, the nightmare began!  While it is now past the return date of Best Buy, I refuse to waste anymore time dealing with eero!  Tomorrow,  I will be going to back to Best Buy to purchase a standard, who-cares-if-it-looks-like-an-alien, router!!!

Eero Saarinen was a genius of form and function.  This amazon eero is sadly a poor example of it.

If you think it's bad as a user, try running a service that gets randomly blocked by Eero. We have paying customers who call us saying our app doesn't work, and there's no indication of why it's not working since the requests just time out. We spent two months trying to debug the issues until we finally noticed a pattern that people were reporting having an Eero. Our only recourse is to sound sketchy by telling our customers to turn off their security settings while requesting that Eero stop blocking us with no feedback or timeline for when that might be fixed. It's terrible.

Has anyone found a fix to this?  I do NOT have an eero pro, so it's not white or blacklisting.  I can get to the sites when I connect directly to my cable modem, but not through the eero.  Doesn't matter what browser or what device I use.  And it's intermittent, sometimes they work and sometimes they don't.  I can get to the sites if I use a VPN.  I've tried changing DNS servers, that didn't help.  Anyone?

I am having the same problem trying to surf the web. When I use my windows PC laptop and connect to the Eero network, websites are blocked, even on the guest network. Using a VPN seems to fix the problem and I can surf easily. I can also surf using the Eero network on my iPhone with no VPN and have no problem. The blocking happens only with the Windows laptop and no VPN.

I was also having issues with some websites timing out. I tried changing all options within Eero and the Firewall settings on my modem. The only thing that worked for me was deactivating IPv6. I guess I'll leave this off until no one uses IPv4.

Does anyone else have issues with the eero blocking BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub etc? if I plug into the router direct, it works. If I run it through the eero they all disappear. Means I can’t run my upstairs TV properly. My internet provider are baffled. I thought it was just the new TV I got at Christmas but it’s definitely the eero blocking it. Thanks.

I’m experiencing the same issue with the Commerce Bank app (not the website) on my iPhone. As is my daughter on hers. I launch the app and it just hangs on the splash screen if I’m on Wi-Fi. But if I disconnect the Wi-Fi and get on the cellular network the app works as expected.

I do not now nor have I ever run eero Secure or eero Plus. So nothing eero related should be doing any sort of site blocking. It hasn’t always been like this as the problem only started a few months ago.

Originally I had Local DNS Caching enabled and was using my local ISP DNS. Couldn’t launch the app. So thinking it may be a corrupted DNS cache I tried …

Disabling Local DNS Caching and keeping my local ISP DNS. Couldn’t launch the app.

Disabling Local DNS Caching and switching to OpenDNS. Couldn’t launch the app.

Enabling Local DNS Caching and switching to OpenDNS. Couldn’t launch the app.

After testing all combinations I think it’s safe to say that it doesn’t matter if Local DNS Caching is enabled or disabled. It doesn’t matter if I’m using my local ISP DNS or OpenDNS. But there is something about EERO that is blocking this app.
