  • With the 6.5 update, I saw this in the release notes:

    • fix for failed connectivity with WPA3 enabled on some Apple devices

We have 2 very old iPads running iOS 10.3.3. I know previously older devices that don't have WPA3 we unable to connect. I'm wondering if this update is supposed to fix that particular issue? Or will all the older Apple devices never be able to connect to the network if WPA3 is enabled?

    • Hello anotherJmartin ,

If a device that doesn't support WPA3 connections, can connect to a WPA3 network that uses a transition mode like eero, then it should still connect to the network but it will use WPA2 since it is not able to connect to WPA3. From what I researched, some older versions of iOS do not support connecting WPA3  "transition mode" and so would not be able to connect. That is entirely handled on the iOS firmware and software and it entirely out of the hands of eero.

  • With the 6.5 update I have a Samsung Fridge and a Honeywell T9 that can’t connect when WPA3 is enabled. They can’t see the WiFi NW neither 2.4 nor 5.

The Honeywell Thermostat is supported as a Ring Integration.

    • Hello Mike Porkert ,

Thank you for reaching out to us and welcome to The Community! Were the devices able to connect to your network with WPA3 enabled prior to the update? When you connect the devices with WPA3 disabled can you check to see if the devices have any firmware updates? Are you able to verify if the devices are able to connect to WPA3 networks?

I just got the Eero’s so they were on 6.4 only a day. So I don’t remember on the Fridge. But the thermostat yes it could connect

But there is more. In 6.5 the thermostat suddenly could not communicate to the cloud service. It was connected to WiFi. When I briefly turned off 5G in troubleshooting. it worked. Then the moment 5G re-enabled it could not connect to the cloud. All the time it was connected to WiFi per the app.

Then I enabled legacy. It worked to connect to the cloud. I left it on legacy for 12 hours. All was fine. Then I disabled legacy and the thermostat is still connected to the cloud now on 5G. So now it works but makes no sense to me why.

    • Hello Mike Porkert ,

Ahh that makes sense. So Legacy turns your 2.5GHz bandwidth back to WiFi 5 instead of WiFi 6. There is a possibility that the devices are having problems with WiFi 6. If they work correctly with legacy mode enabled I would keep that enabled so your devices work correctly. Check with the manufacturers of the devices and ask them if their devices are able to connect to WiFi 6 networks as well if you have the time.

yes that makes sense to me too. But I am confused that once I turned off legacy I expected the Thermostat to disconnect but instead it is working correctly now on both 2.4G and 5G

    • Hello Mike Porkert ,

That is really interesting. Keep an eye on it and if the device continues to have issues mark down the time and date and let me know so we can check the logs on our back end.

The thermostat disconnected today around 9 pm. Turned legacy on and reconnected. I will disable legacy tomorrow am to see if the thermostat stays connected.

And I disabled legacy just now at 6 am EST and the Thermostat is still connected and working.

  • All other devices connect with WPA3 enabled except a Tesla Wall connector. With WPA3 disabled it connects right away.

    • Hello GP ,

I would check in with Tesla. I know we have quite a few customers with Tesla devices that can connect to the eero network just fine. But I've not worked with the devices personally. There could be a limitation with the wall connector you have and WPA3.

To learn more about how eero handles WPA3 you can review the article below.

  • Since upgrading to 6.5, Ad Blocker rate went down significantly (blocking very little now). I tried toggling between profiles and network option but it makes no difference.  Is this a new bug? Any other suggestion?

  • Eero does not seem to be probably blocking network access to devices add to the block list. Starting to get fed up with these issues. I am about to switch to a new main router and use Eero routers in bridge mode. Plus, other routers have more functionality that Eero.

    • rayb30 Thanks for posting about this! Device blocking not working is definitely something we would like to investigate further. Send us an email or give us a call and we will be happy to look more closely. Some initial thoughts would be MAC randomization, or Private IPs, causing the eero system to view the device as a new device and circumventing the block, which is MAC address based.

Evan (eero support)  thank you for your quick response. I will take a look at those possible settings that may be causing issues with blocking devices and email Eero.

Evan (eero support) I discovered the issue! I had no custom settings besides DNS and Advanced Security turned on, so I restarted the Eero network after changing DNS to default and turn off Advanced Security, but still had the issue. Tested again after re-enabling Advanced Security, no change. I switched DNS back to custom with a restart now everything seems to be working as it should. Probably a manual hard reset would had done the trick.

I was a little to harsh in my initial post. Security is NOT an issue that Eero has. Next time, I’ll try the reset my network first before jumping to conclusions.

  •  connectivity is something depending where you're at .. I'm having a hard time connect from my other house but from my main house it's no problem but my other house doesn't have Wi-Fi so I have a hit a few dead spots so even though cellular has some trouble getting in there but they have something to do with the lead paint but other than that this system is great and it's awesome and I'm going to buy a lot more of it

  • Eero gurus,

I was connecting a home device (Ukoke Rollable 12,000 btu air conditioner) and the WPA3 setting on Labs prevented it from connecting so there must be something in its old handshake that Eero mistakenly tried to use WPA3 for. I’m assuming you want Eero to be able to distinguish when it needs to fall-back to WPA2?

  • Hi all,

I’ve found that enabling the WPA3 feature provides a wifi compatibility issue with the first gen iPads. With WPA3 beta enabled, my iPad is kicked off the Wi-Fi and can’t rejoin. Disable it and it can.

    • Deonsdad theb1st issue, you should never play a game console and or PC game on wifi.. if you can always use Ethernet. If not your behind everyone else right off the bat.. but if you continue to use wireless try reserving your IP, I had similar issues with other devices and by reserving my IP it fixed my connection issue..

Kev451 - is the Xbox close to the eero?  Also, does this model have a Gigabit Ethernet?  If you do have ethernet, then plug this directly into the eero.  The best connection for gaming would be ethernet and not WiFi at all....

bimbam1024  - not understanding this.  Use ISP DNS or any public like google. (8.8.8.8)

      Like
    • bimbam1024 No, when eero secure is enabled it overrides any DNS server you have setup. The way eero secure works is that all requests are routed through the DNS service (which I'm assuming is still Zscaler). If you were using different DNS servers, then your DNS requests wouldn't get filtered, blocked, etc.

    • cMoo92 understand that, but i have so many devices inside the network. Would be great to have a dns service inside the network.

  • Brand new TP Link HomeKit smart plug requires WPA3 to be off.  Model KP125.

Turning off WPA3 is the only way to get these plugs to work at all. Even if you turn WPA3 back on after setup, the plugs start flashing red and cannot connect.

Again, these are brand new from Best Buy and not some “legacy” device.

Interestingly enough, my Google Nest Wifi 3pack with WPA3 on works great with everything, including these plugs. But ever since I switched to Eero 6 pro 3 pack, the WPA3 option is broken.
