Children bypassing pause on iOS

Hi all,

Our son can unpause himself from the network using his iPhone. I think he's toggling the private web address on his WiFi settings, which is very simple on his iPhone.

Is there any way I can configure the eero to stop this? This was one of the advantages to this system but if it's so easy to bypass it's not much use.

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Stephen

Hi  Currently there is not a way in eero to stop this.  The setting makes the phone appear, from the eero's perspective, as a different device (which is the point of the setting), so the eero won't apply the filters/schedules that the original device had.

We already have a feature request in for a default network profile, that would be the only way the eero can combat this issue.

You will have to either talk to him directly or find a way on the Phone to prevent that setting from being used or some other phone-based workaround.

is there a way for each device added to the network to require approval before they can fully join?

There is not currently.  We do have a feature request for a Default Network Profile, that would work for what you are asking.

great! Is there a help page on this topic?

also- is there a way to require Face ID to open the app? I can’t see anything that would stop a child from just changing the settings in my phone when he has it.

that’s helpful for him to not be able to change his network settings, thanks!

still need a solution for new or unknown devices, and mostly to stop him from being able to change the settings of his profile in the eero app when he has my phone. Do you have an idea for that? Thanks!

Setup Screentime limits for your childs account on that device or IOS.  We do that instead and works great.

I bought the eero so I could avoid that, since my child has previously hacked iOS restrictions like this. Consider yourself lucky you have a kid who accepts it and doesn’t have the skills or drive to hack

    Clever kids.

you can use the IPhone Configuration Utility from Apple to do this. You can make it so that he doesn’t have access to change network settings at all.
