Eero Pro 6 and Apple HomeKit

Will the new Eero Pro 6 support Apple’s HomeKit in the future?

    • cMoo92 there’s no way to add the new Eero 6 or Eero Pro 6 to HomeKit, like you could with previous Eero’s. Apple also confirms the Eero 6 and Eero Oro 6 are NOT currently supported HoneKit accessories. Eero’s website also specifically does NOT say that these new routers support HoneKit. That’s why I’m asking if that functionality will come back.

cMoo92 The new ones don’t at the moment. From what Eero has said it’s going through the certification process. I have faith it will come to them soon enough.

  • The Eero 6 routers. Does not support Homekit like the previous eero devices. Don't know why. I'm honestly upset about it because I have the Eero pro and replaced it with the new Eero 6. To find out it's not homekit is really upsetting. I spoke with an eero support member. He told me that it would support HomeKit, which was not true. I hope they make it support Homekit. Now I'm stuck with two "no response" router on my homekit and I can't delete.

There’s a thread about this on Reddit where the CEO indicated that the eero 6 systems were undergoing HomeKit certification with Apple. So it should just be a matter of time. In the meantime you can get rid of your oils routers in the Home app. But you must select the “Remove Accessory” option on the gateway eero. It doesn’t appear on the other devices. When you do that all of the eero’s you have setup in HomeKit will be removed.

    • Thank you, I was able to remove the accessory from my HomeKit with your advice. Yes, what you said is true I got a reply back from eero customer support stating the same fact is you said that they are waiting for Apple HomeKit certification.

    • Unfortunately no, Still no HomeKit compatibly. Still waiting for them. I honestly blame Amazon. Just like Ring was going to make their devices Homekit until Amazon bought them and they never did. Same with Google when they bought Nest, but hopefully I’m wrong with eero.

    • Previous models became HomeKit compatible after Amazon had bought eero. This isn’t a question of “if” the eero 6 models will become HomeKit compatible, it’s just a matter of when. From the sounds of it, eero is simply waiting on Apple to approve it—so it’s not even eero’s fault.

    • The previous version became HomeKit compatible before company was officially bought by Amazon in March 2019 and it had the HomeKit in February 2019. I had the previous product when it came out. Apple would approved it by now because they approved it before. Its Amazon that what’s Alexa over Apple. But like I said I hope I’m wrong.

    • Anthony-Yasin Amazon announced they were buying eero in February 2019. eero publicly released HomeKit support in February 2020 (HomeKit compatibility was available to beta testers prior to February 2020, but only by a few months). And just because a company is owned by Amazon doesn't mean it won't get HomeKit as evidenced by these situations:

      1. eero getting HomeKit earlier this year
      2. Ecobee announcing HomeKit compatibility today for their SmartCamera

    • cMoo92 We’ll see, like I said I hope I’m wrong about it. Amazon has done it before. Ecobee is its own company. It’s not owned Amazon if that is what you’re asking.

    • Anthony-Yasin I stand corrected. I forgot that Amazon had only invested in Ecobee--not actually acquired them.

  • So at this point, I feel duped but it's my fault because I wasn't careful enough to read through all the marketing between the 'erro pro' and 'erro 6 pro'. I have a 2,800 sqft home. The 'erro 6 pro' does a great job providing wifi through the house without needing to buy a second device. However, is it worth downgrading to an erro pro or just wait for an update that may never happen?  Thoughts?

    • HomeKit on routers offers very little functionality. All it does is let you choose to apply a little more granular security to other HomeKit devices on your network. It can be useful, but it’s not even remotely close to being a deal breaker to me. I would definitely stick with the Pro 6 that you already have.

cnewman Absolutely just wait it out, friend. Eero developers indicated on Reddit it’s just going through the certification process so it’ll be on it’s way.

  • Does anyone know if the HomeKit certification is only for the router or will bridge to all the zigbee accessories connected to it?

    Like
    • Dingodogz it’s for the Eero router only.

  • Disappointing. Why add the zigbee router and not fully support it on a par with Hue or SmartThings  Hub

    Like
    • Dingodogz because each vendor is only allowed by Apple to get their own products certified. That’s how all certifications work. The makers of Hue and SmartThings also do NOT certify all devices to work with their hubs; each much be individually submitted for certification by whoever makes the device.

Hue and SmartThings also state in their support pages that device certification can take 90+ days to complete.

    • Dingodogz and HomeKit is done by Apple, NOT Eero. Eero has no control over it whatsoever. All HomeKit support is done by Apple.

All Zigbee certifications are also done by the Zigbee Alliance and not Eero. Individual device makers must submit their devices to the Zigbee Alliance for certification.

Richard1864 think you are not following the intention of my question. The eero 6 is advertised to be a zigbee hub and as such the HomeKit intg should see all accessories connected to the eero otherwise it failed in its goal to eliminate the need to purchase an additional dedicated hub just for that.

      Like
    • Dingodogz HomeKit and Zigbee are two completely separate things, and do NOT work together.

Apple TV’s and iPads are the ONLY devices that can be used as HomeKit hubs

The Zigbee hub is ONLY for Zigbee devices

HomeKit ONLY sees HoneKit certified devices and Zigbee sees ONLY Zigbee devices.

  • Sigh, I understand, but it kind of sucks to buy the newest thing and find out it doesn’t support one of these highlighted features. Almost went with the Eero Wifi 5 but got the Eero Wifi 6 mesh network for future proofing. I hope they don’t take long to approve it.

  • Over the holiday break, I decided to reset all my HomeKit accessories on my network and enable HomeKit on my main Gateway Eero Pro.  I have 3 Eero Pros and 1 Eero Beacon (running eeroOS 6.1.0).  Everything was set up and running fine last night.  I added all my Phillips Hue and Lutron lights and switches and tested them before going to bed.  This morning I get up and open my Home app on my iPhone 12 (running iOS 14.3) and MacBook Pro (running macOS Big Sur 11.1) only to see "No Response" for all my eero devices.

Anyone know how to fix this issue?

I would really appreciate any ideas or insights

  • Here's the reply I received from Eero Support this afternoon:

    "Hello,

Thank you for emailing to us with your concern.

As of now, we are currently working with Apple to receive the license to have ties with our latest firmware updates to the eero devices. The HomeKit section in the eero app may have been removed with any recent app updates as well.

Once HomeKit is available again, we send out a newsletter/ email to our users. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

if you have any other inquiries or concerns, feel free to let us know.

    eero Support"

Guess this means:  "Don't use this now.  We'll tell you when you can try again."

  • So disappointing. I’m actually debating returning the device and buying it again when and if it ever gets homekit in the future. If it’s not going to segment network connections for me I’d like a router with the ability to create a separate VLAN instead.

  • I can’t believe I missed this when I just upgraded to the Pro 6 today. Prolly on its way back now. This is crazy...  reading the thread it’s taken MONTHS for this?!?

  • I was communicating with Customer Support on another issue back on 03/08/21 and inquired about an ETA on HomeKit compatibility for the eero 6 .  Unfortunately their response was "As for Homekit, unfortunately I don't have any updates for you about that. eero will update users about that when there is more information."

  • I have found since upgrading to eero pro 6, I can not longer add homekit devices to my network. I follow the process and scan the code and it tells me I can’t add the device. I had a light that was on the network and I deleted it and tried to reinstall it and now nothing... I can’t add it.

eero told me there was a problem that they were working with Apple on.

I would really like to get this resolved but no time horizon...

    • jwklinck this isn’t a HomeKit issue. The problem is that the light bulb you’re trying to connect only supports 2.4Ghz while your phone is likely on the 5Ghz network. The way to get around this is to temporarily disable the 5Ghz radio so your phone will be on the 2.4Ghz radio. To do this, open the eero app and go to Settings > Troubleshooting > My device won’t connect > My device is 2.4Ghz only

  • I tried your suggestion and I think the problem is more complicated.  I set the eero to only 2.4 Ghz and reconnected the iPhone.  Then I tried to add the device to my HomeKit and it came up with the correct device name, but then when I tapped it to add it, it said I needed to connect the phone to my HomeKit compatible router and the popup window disappear.  It would seem that I can't add it until eero and Apple do whatever is needed to get this router HomeKit compatible.

jwklinck correct. Eero pro 6 is not compatible yet with HomeKit. The blame is apparently on Apple certification... but this issue has been open for half a year, easily.

  • I’m surprised there’s still no support for Homekit. Might have to update my review of it on Amazon to reflect the missing functionality. Shame, since it’s a good device otherwise.

    • eerodyspo considering Apple is the one holding up HomeKit certification and NOT Eero, it does no good to blame Eero for it. Netgear, Asus, Libksys, and Cisco are also waiting for HomeKit certification from Apple for routers they released 1st Quarter 2020. The delay is entirely on Apple’s end, NOT Eero.

  • I purchased this in January. I am starting to think that HomeKit isn’t coming.

Is there any recent news on HomeKit approval? Maybe some sort of time frame?

I’m just curious as to how long it took them to get approval for the prior model.

Anthony-Yasin It's also available on the earlier eero pro (pre-6), which I have. You do need to update your iOS eero app for the option to appear. Not sure if you need to be on eeroOS 6.3.1, but probably you do.

  • Hey all- I'm struggling mightily to get eero Pro to connect with HomeKit. I've got an updated ipad (3) set as home hub (including Keychain active and 2FA). I click through eero (latest iOS version) from ...Discover>Apple HomeKit>. Then I go through ...Set up HomeKit>Open Home Hub. From Home Hub>Add Accessory... I choose, "I don't have a code or cannot scan." Home Hub can see the eero pro, and when I tap to add it, I get this message:
This accessory could not be added using this app. Try adding from the accessory manufacturer's app."

ARGH! Do I need to scan the eero? Are there any other settings I should check?

Thanks for any advice you can give.

  • When I click on “Setup HomeKit” in the Eero app->Discover section, I only get a spinning circle that never ends. This happens on both my iPhone 12 and iPad Pro running iOS/iPadOS 14.6. ☹️

Oscar Gidas Same issue here as well.  Just bought a new Euro 6 for a new network and get the never ending spinning circle after clicking "Setup Homekit" too.

By chance did you find a solution?  Anyone have any insight to this?

Oscar Gidas The solution is to temporarily disable "Thread" support in the eero app (Settings tab > Network Settings > Thread > off).  After that, the "Set up HomeKit" button will work.  Afterwards, you can re-enable Thread.  I realize that my post is 5 months too late for you, but I'm posting this for folks who might have stumbled onto this discussion sometime later.

    • lifjoy Thanks! That worked. It took me about 5 tries to add my Eero AP’s to HomeKit but it finally worked on my iPhone.

On a side note,  I’ve noticed that I had to turn off Eero’s Ad Blocking feature to get ESPN/ABC streaming to work on my network too. It’s a shame we have to keep disabling features to avoid other issues.

No. Issue is still happening with iOS 14.7.1 on my iPhone 12.
