Eero reliability when internet is down

Back in the heady days of January, I’d have never anticipated frequent internet outages.  But here we are in a pandemic, smashing records for users online and the vast amounts of bandwidth in use.  So outages are a more common thing now.

Back in early May, I gave up on waiting for WiFi 6 and got an Eero Pro 3-pack to put around the house and provide cable drops to some devices that had been relying on their own underpowered WiFi chips.   In general, everything works great.  It does everything I hoped for.

However, when the aforementioned internet outages occur, the problems arise. I have a Synology loaded up with local files and when I stream from it to a player such as a Shield running Kodi, we get. 5 second pause every 2 minutes or so.   It’s all 100% local, the only variable being that now we have Eero as the communications device and the internet is down.  When the internet is up, never a problem.  When there was no Eero and the Internet was down, never had a problem.

so, is this just “an Eero thing”, or are there some settings to help Eero perform correctly when it’s not able to talk to big brother every 2 minutes?

That seems odd. I run Plex locally and I know I can stream just fine during outages, so I’m not sure how much of the issue you’re experiencing is an eero issue vs something else.

I would double-check that nothing is trying to reach out to the internet. Plex works for me as well if I disconnect my internet.
