eero speed test results - how does it calculate this?
My ISP service provides me 16Mbps down and 4Mbps up. When I run a speedtest from those sites, I usually get that, if a bit more.
But when I run the speedtest from eero right after, it's different, so far only for the upload speed. I have not ever gotten more than 2Mbps up from eero, sometimes this even drops down to 1Mbps. But when i check again from using those sites, the upload is 4+Mbps.
I was wondering how eero calculates the speedtest. Is this different than external sites?
Ultimately, i'm wondering if eero is accurate in this regard.
I had the same issue and called eero support. My concern was that the eero took the speed into account when managing the network. I have 100/20 and I was showing as low as 2/20. The support tech told me they had some issues on their end and that the Speedtest was more for info and not used to manage the network. I’ve noticed an improvement in the accuracy, but since it doesn’t affect anything I’m not worried about it so long as my devices show the correct speed. Hope this helps!
eero's speed test doesn't seem to be accurate at all. It varies widely for me.
For example, speedtest.net shows 900+ up/down. I have a 1gig AT&T Fiber connection. But eero only shows 5 down / 359 up.
This happens ALL the time. Hopefully this is just a stupid "display" feature and doesn't impact the logic of the way eero processes information.
I've been wondering if this speed test reflects wifi speeds or total speed throughput to the modem? My 1gb connection is also varying wildly between 20/20 to 800/20 but never achieving over 800. Over wifi on Speedtest, I'm topping out around 250. Ethernet through a switch/eero/modem gets about 300-400. Ethernet straight to the modem gives a solid 950+ every time on fast.com or speedtest. Seems like eero is slowing things down for me. Does having 29 devices affect it?
Have to agree that Speedtest.net gives very different results than the eero speedtest.
Speedtest,net gives 330 up and 9 down.
Eero speedtest gives 75 up and 9 down.
Not a worry given that I’m getting great performance with the eero network, but just wondering what is being measured. Going through a Bitdefender Box 2, in eero in bridge mode, but I still wonder why there is such a big difference. Won’t lose sleep over it tho :).

Got me thinking so I did my own testing using Speedtest, Netgear CM600 Modem, Netgear GS605 5port Switch and MacBook Pro. Spectrum 100/10 service. Pretty consistent service throughout (though not always at these same numbers depending on the time of day).
Modem->MBP = 119/12
Modem->Eero->MBP = 118/12
Modem->Eero->Switch->MBP = 119/12
at Eero Wi-fi-> MBP = 116/12
at Beacon #1 (35ft)->MBP = 118/12
at Beacon #2 (70ft)->MBP = 118/12
Note: That’s using a ‘2008’ MBP. Using my older model iPad Air the Wi-fi number are much lower.
at Eero-iPad Air = 90/12
at Beacon #1 (35ft) = 88/11
at Beacon #2 (70ft) = 81/11
I assume the Wi-fi capability of the MBP, tho much older, is still better than the iPad. Unfortunately, tho the numbers aren’t horribly lower, I use my iPad 90% of the time (which I’ll be replacing with an iPad Pro after Apples WWDC in June :) .
I've noted big differences in the Eero speed test vs. using an online tool, too. When I hardwire my Mac, speedtest.net and others typically give me 900+ down, whereas the Eero app consistently shows between 400-500 MB down. Not a big deal if it is for informational purposes only. Does anyone know if the system uses the data for network management at all?
