Eero, HomeKit, & August Smart Lock

So I recently enabled HomeKit on my eero WiFi system. Everything went smoothly. But when I was done I noticed that all my HomeKit devices showed up in the WIFi Networks & Routers - Accessories section ... except my August SmartLock. Removing it se HomeKit and setting it up again had no effect. What’s up with that?

I have the August lock and it doesn’t show up in the list either. Probably has to due with the August firmware not supporting that functionality, but that’s just a guess.

cMoo92 So naturally August is telling me they are just another HomeKit device and it doesn't require a firmware update for this feature so the issue isn't on their end. Let the "blame games" begin!

OAW It could also be that Apple needs to include stuff in the Homekit code to support the various accessories. So it might just be that they haven't included the necessary support for August products at this time. I'm fairly confident this isn't an issue with eero.

cMoo92 So it occurred to me that while the August Smart Lock is a HomeKit device it's NOT a Wifi device. It fundamentally works via BlueTooth. Sure you can control it remotely with the Home app if you have a Wifi bridge (e.g. Apple TV, HomePod, iPad, etc.) ... but the eero has a no direct connection to it. This probably explains why it's not supported by the HomeKit Accessory Security feature of the eero. 🤔

August sells a wifi connector for some of its models. I have 3 and only 2 are wifi compliant, and I needed to get the connector for those 2 two show up natively.
