eero Secure+

Has anyone actually had a good experience with Eero Secure+? I browse sites, everything is obscenely slow, and when my wife does even basic shopping on Amazon or other sites, drop downs and many other basic site elements are disabled until I turn it off. I get constant disconnects when the coverage and network saturation is great. I’m the running joke in in every Zoom meeting because I am the only one freezing. People with 1/10th of my bandwidth have no issues. My download at is slowest is 900mbps, with an upload of 46mbps. I’m on the latest firmware and on new hardware running on GigE. The problem happens in every room of the house, and Secure+ is part of the culprit. Generally speaking, my Comcast router simply out performs the eero hands down in terms is consistent performance. I troubleshoot from the wall inward, reboot reboot reboot, remove obstructions, turn off all other devices on my network, factory reset, retry and try again. It’s a rather expensive and failed experiment investing in Eero so far and honestly it mostly boils down to Secure+ issues.

Sorry, this is is my personal experience and feedback. I’m assuming the hardware is great, however, coupled with Secure+, it’s really not a good experience for me, and my main user at home (my wife) has just about had it with Eero.

I've given up on eero Secure some time ago mostly due to occasionally not resolving the DNS requests (the other problem was the lack of logs, so couldn't tell what to allow-list so that Disney+ works). Sometimes it took about a minute to resolve a site, so, as you say, I was ending up with either a site or specific elements not loading. Eero Secure relies on a remote DNS server to resolve the requests without any local caching. I guess the argument is that you want the resolving to be up to date but that brings some reliability issues.

Since then I moved to nextdns, it offers similar level of protection but you don't get the nice statistics in an app like eero does.

eero Plus is unlikely to be the culprit of your Zoom woes. That is a latency issue. Have you tried enabling Optimize for Conferencing & Gaming?

tcaleb46 eero app > Discover Tab > eero Labs. Only enable it if the speedtest results in the Activity tab line up with what you are subscribed for from your ISP.

thatsthequy Thanks.. Not sure if I am going to turn it on yet as most of my traffic is streaming now. Last year, the conferencing need was higher, but I never really experiences any issues or lag.

tcaleb46 it’s a poorly named feature. It can benefit every network as long as those speedtest results are accurate. I have it on for all six of my eero networks.
