Custom IP range and address reservation

Hi folks,

just a quick question. Let's say I'm using one of the default IP ranges for eero's internal network, like 192.168.4.x. And I have configured a larger number of DHCP IP address reservations.

If I then decide later (for whatever reason) to change the IP range to a different one (for example 192.168.1.x), will the reservations automatically be changed (from 192.168.4.x to 192.168.1.x in this example), or will they get deleted and must then be re-created?

Many thanks in advance!

  • This should be pretty easy to test and confirm on your own:

    1. Create a reservation for ONE device and confirm that the device is using it.
    2. Switch the IP range to a different range.
    3. Check the reservation to see if it still exists and uses the expected IP address, and confirm that the device starts using the new IP address.

Once you see that it works (or not), you can switch your eero back to the original IP range.

If it would be that easy I would of course have tried it myself already… 😄

Unfortunately it’s not because I have set up about 30 reservations, which is a bit of a PITA to do, especially if you have to use an app instead of a web interface on a PC. If I remember correctly it took me approximately an hour to set this up. Way too much to test this the trial-and-error style… 🤣

BigBlue007 Yeah, I realized AFTER I posted that you may have already set up all of the reservations. (I am in the same position, or I would test it myself.)

Maybe someone here who hasn't set up reservations and doesn't mind a little testing would like to try this out? Otherwise you'll need to wait for one of the eero folks to chime in.

    • Hello BigBlue007 ,

I was able to verify that changing the DHCP scheme will clear all IP Reservations that were setup on the previous DHCP scheme.

Edit: Just found out we are able to manually migrate those IP Reservations over for you if you wanted to give our support line a call. https://support.eero.com/hc/en-us/articles/207376426-How-do-I-contact-eero-support-

James That would save me an hour+ of work then… 😉

So the workflow would probably be that I give you guys a ring FIRST, you then do the migration, let me know when it‘s done, and then I change the IP range, do a reboot, and then the migrated reservations are active.

      Correct?

    • Hello BigBlue007 ,

Most likely we will take care of it on the phone. It should only take a few minutes. We will get the info of all the reservations, change the IP range, then setup the reservations again.

James Thanks, will give it a try.

I’am located in Germany. Should I reach out to the German support phone number, or better to your US colleagues?

    • Hello BigBlue007 ,

It would be best to reach out to which ever number you feel most comfortable with. If you are comfortable speaking English you can call the US support line. Otherwise, you may want to wait for the German number's hours of operation.
