eero with FIOS problem

Hi folks. I have been running (4) eero pros and (2) beacons for about 6 months now with a FIOS gigabit service. It's been a little flaky, but in general OK. I get 200+ mbps to most wireless devices, but have to restart the network once in a while. All of the eero pros had been hardwired directly to the FIOS router. Computers hardwired to second port on eero's were getting 500-700 mbps. All good. However, I just realized this week you were not supposed to do that, and since the network was occasionally flaky, I figured I would change it.

So, today I connected a single eero pro to the router and then fed a switch which feed the rest of the network. Speeds plummeted to 90 mbps across all eeros except the gateway. I rebooted the network and it was fine for a couple of hours and now back to 90 mbps across the whole network, On my gigabit switch the lights clearly indicate the gateway eero is only communicating at 100 mbps.

Eeros are in bridge mode to keep my STB's working properly and frankly, the FIOS router has way more sophisticated configuration and security handling than the eero stuff, so I am not willing to hand the whole network to eero at this point.

Any ideas on why my eero gateway is throttling the whole network to 100 mbps?

I’m willing to bet you’re using a Cat5 Ethernet cable which will only run at 100Mbps speeds. Need to use a Cat5e or Cat6 Ethernet cable to get gigabit.
