Love the simplicity. Hate the constant sell and subscription.

I love the simplicity of the new eero6 and while the range/power isn't best in class, it has been stable so far and sufficient for my use. For reference, I upgraded from an Apple Airport, and have previously owned Linksys, Netgear, TPLink, and Cisco products.

However, I hate the fact that basic management features like detailed activity monitoring are not available unless you pay a monthly subscription. I understand why features like ad blocking and content filtering are pay-for features, since they require a service to back them that has a cost to run and update. But management and visibility into my devices is something that doesn't require constant maintenance or a service to support it. It's not something I expect to pay additional for after paying for the devices themselves, especially considering the premium pricing eero charges: either you sell the devices as a loss leader for the subscription revenue model or you collect revenue on the hardware. You can't have it both ways.

Between this and the lack of access without Internet connectivity--probably related to the monthly subscription/cost for the eero's service based model--and these devices unfortunately becomes a non-starter for me. I'll be returning my 1x Pro 6 router and 2x 6 routers (I wanted the wired backhaul) and moving back to a more traditional networking hardware vendors products.

It's a needlessly-greedy cash grab, if you ask me.

I agree totally we should not have to pay for these services ! If i knew this in beginning i would have went for Netgear you get this and more without having to pay. Amazon charges a high price for equipment with no extra features you can turn on or off like EVERYONE ELSE DOES and then charges you more to get free features everyone gets with other Wi-Fi companies. I will not be paying for that anymore and when someone ask me how good is erro i will suggest to move on to anyone else for hardware!
