Thinking about adding an ARLO security cameras to my eero network; any issues connecting ARLO to eero or anything I need to know.

  • Just a suggestion that you already may be doing, but you'd also want to check the Arlo forums for this info - likely more/better info there due to those forums being focused on Arlo users. .

rudybruins I also noticed previously in some posts in another forum that in the Arlo system, the cameras connect to the base station, which connects to your network. So if that's correct, you'll be reliant on the base station to connect to your cameras, and your Eero mesh network strength won't be leveraged for cameras that are at the greatest distance.

  • I just installed an Arlo camera system at my house this week. It works just fine with eero. But Danabw is correct that Arlo doesn’t use your eero WiFi. It connects only to its own base station, so it’s important to place the base station in a central location where your cameras can still talk to it. The base station does have to be wired in as well, but that’s one great thing about eero! One of my eero leaf nodes is in a more central spot than my gateway, so I just wired it into that one and that was all there was to it.

cMoo92 I have used the same topology in my house. My primary gateway is in a corner of the house (which I why I needed Eero in the first place) and so I put the Arlo hub in a central area of the house wired to the back of an Eero Pro. Works fine, no issues.

  • I tried connecting and no luck. Spent half a day waiting on the phone between Arlo and Eero. Eero hung up on me and didn’t call back. Does anyone know how to add Arlo pro 3 to eero?

  • Talked to Arlo for 2 hours about my connection problems and they mentioned that Channel 11 and ports 80 and 443 need to be enabled. How can I check this on my eero?

    • Unless Arlo changed something with their newer cameras, Arlo cameras require the Arlo hub/base station. The hub/base station would get wired into one of your eeros using a network cable, and then the cameras wirelessly connect over WiFi to the hub/base station—but this is separate from your eero WiFi. Port 80 & 443 are already open so no need to worry about that (you wouldn’t be able to access any websites if they weren’t). I don’t understand why they are referring to channel 11 since I don’t believe it matters since the cameras aren’t using eero’s WiFi signal.

    • yep....understand the concept and the role of the hub. Thanks for the data on the ports. i=It was explained to me that Channel 11 is needed for the hub to register the devices with the app.

    • HooDooGuruDad hey did you ever solve this issue? I’m having same problems I think.  I can’t add the base station to my app if connected to eero.  If I connect straight to router it works but I need to connect to an eero in a different part of the house....

  • Arlo Pro 4 doesn't need a base station

  • The Arlo Pro and Pro 2 need the base station. Some cameras, like the Essential and others can either hook up to the base station, or wireless directly to your router.

The problem I'm having is with the eero only having one wired outlet when I need a few more. The Arlo base unit connects fine to eero directly, but as soon as I add a switch, the Arlo base unit loses internet. I've confirmed that the switch works fine by running an older laptop (wifi turned off) through it. Have not gotten an answer from Arlo yet.
