Upgrade from Eero Pro to Pro 6 or 6E?

I have an Eero Pro setup with gateway and 2 other devices which was attached to my 400Mbs cable service.  I just upgraded my internet connection to 1 Gig fiber.

I am considering upgrading the Eeros to either Pro 6 or 6E. Is there a significant speed increase over the wifi such that it pays to upgrade?

  • For me the Pro 6 was the right answer.  I use a wired backhaul and really few if any clients can use the 6ghz band, so I wanted two 5ghz bands for my clients.  Here's why, Eeros with two 5ghz bands may assign at least one 5ghz band to the DFS range.  Quite a few devices can't connect to DFS channels.  Since the other 5ghz channel usually DOESN'T get assigned to a DFS channel except in very rare circumstances, this gives me a 5ghz band for every device. With a 6E, it's possible and even likely that the only 5ghz band is DFS, meaning I can't use it for some devices.  I didn't come from an Eero pro, but I can tell you that these devices with Wi-Fi 6 are snappier in use and provide me better download speeds at longer coverage than my previous Wi-Fi 5 solution.

  • If you are using wireless backhaul, go 6e.
