Setting up eero with Cox Gigablast

I was thinking of upgrading my current Cox internet plan to the Gigablast plan (gigabit speeds at 1000 Mb/s over fiber-optic) and was wondering if the eeros could also broadcast these speeds. If they can't, I was wondering how they could be set up in order to maximize their speeds and what these speeds will be, since other posts have stated that upon switching to a fiber plan their eero Wifi speeds remained the same or slightly increased. Any help is much appreciated.

  • You’re gonna get about 600Mbps max over WiFi on eero, which is still plenty. You’re not gonna get gigabit over wifi from any vendor in the real world (yes, they’re marketing depts will B.S. you into thinking you will, but you won’t).

  • Orbi will deliver faster speeds over WiFi than eero because of their 4x4 backhaul however their system is not as stable as eero.  My Orbi was dropping connections to devices pretty often.  It got to the point that I sacrificed speed for stability and switched to eero. If you have the option to wire eero’s together for a wired backhaul you will get your wireless speed back.  Orbi has just announced a new system coming this summer / fall that will support the new WiFi 6 standard and they made other improvements.  I expect that they will get their firmware sorted out and the stability problems should become a thing of the past.  Let’s hope that eero updates its hardware soon with the new standards and a more robust wireless  backhaul so that we are not forced to wire our homes with Cat6 just to get gigabit speeds.
