1st vs. 2nd Gen mixing? And 1 add'l question...

I own one of the 1st gen eero's with a total of 3 devices across my home.

I am considering adding 1 more to get better coverage on our back patio.

2 questions:

1. Can I add a new device on to my existing setup and mix/match 1st & 2nd gen?

2. Will 1 of these work outdoors if kept dry i.e. a covered patio, but will be subject to hot/cold weather?

Thanks

    Thanks for your question,  ericcoffey23

    1. You can definitely mix and match 1st and 2nd gen eeros; all eero devices are compatible with each other.

    2. Technically they can work outdoors, but they are not weather resistant so we highly recommend that you don't put them outside. Usually putting them near to a window is a good way to make sure you're getting wifi outside.

Hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions. 🙂

I have a follow-up to this. Let's say I have a 3-eero 1st-gen system running and I want to add another eero to it, so I buy a 2nd gen eero.

Everything I know tells me that I'd probably want that 2nd gen eero as my main router and not just a satellite unit. So... what's the best way to do that? Do I have to start from scratch, or can I add an eero as a satellite and then somehow "repurpose" that as the main eero on my network without having to go through setup all over again?

    Thanks!
