Allow gateway erro to connect to a hotspot

I have Xfinity, and they have many “hotspots” all over the country.  If you are an Xfinity customer, you can access these hotspots by simply logging in.  Likewise one can use a mobile Hotspot device from all of the major wireless providers.

I hooked my parents up with Eero networks in their two homes.  When they spend the winter in a warm climate, they disconnect the internet at their summer home.  But they would like to be able to control IoT devices (like thermostats).  Their are several Xfinity hotspots that one could connect a mobile device too, but that requires logging in.  Unfortunately you can’t do that for IoT devices, becuase there is no way to authenticate.

So this feature I’d like to see would allow the main Eero to connect to this hotspot (with authentication) as a backup in case the internet on the cable modem goes down.  All of the other Eeros should be able to use this internet connection.  That way if the cable modem goes out, all of the devices would still be on the internet using the hotspot.  They wouldn’t know the difference.

  • Seems like a new hotspot with an Ethernet jack like the nighthawk should look the same to the eero...no?
