Issues with adding a second eero 6

Hello everyone, I hope you all are doing great.

I received 2 eero 6 devices with my new Internet subscription as routers, I connected the first one a while ago and its great! It covers the whole house and is very fast and steady.

Now I wanted to add the 2nd one and I kept getting an error on the app saying I need to make sure that its connected to the modem.

The error confused me and made me think I cannot use the other device as an extender upstairs (I will plug my PC with a LAN cable), however I tried setting it up whilst connected to the first eero, and I also tried setting it up whilst connected to the modem, and I got the same error.

Is my device faulty? Or am I doing something wrong? Is what I wanna achieve possible with 2 eero 6 devices?

Thank you so much everyone.

  • Hello Farich7 ,

Thank you for reaching out to us and welcome to the Community! When you plug the eero into the wall and give it about 5-10 minutes to sit what is the color and behavior of the LED on the eero?

  • Hello,

Please try to connect according to below steps:

    1. Open the eero app.
    2. Tap the blue plus icon on the top right.
    3. Tap Add or Replace eero Devices.
    4. Tap Add eero Device.
    5. Follow the setup instructions to complete the installation.

  • If the app displays that the eero is already on another network, you can clear any past settings by performing a hard reset.

  • The Eero app finds it without any issues but when it attempts to do the placement test it indicates to me that the unit requires an update.

    • Hello Keneth582 ,

I have seen this before on older eeros, it is strange that an eero 6 is experiencing this though. Does it give you the option to update the firmware before adding it to the network? Can you share a screen shot?

You can also try setting up the eero on it's own network and run the update. Once it is updated you can hard reset it and add it to your main network. Keep in mind that it will need to be wired into the back of your other eero or the modem to create it's own network.
