Wired connection

I have three just purchased Eeros. One is hard wired to the Verizon FIOS G3100 router. I wanted to hard wire one on another floor to improve the signal. When I do that and connect it to my laptop, the connection showing is to my Verizon router, not Eero. I don't see any way to change the connection to the Eero. Any advice is appreciated.

  • Is your setup like Scenario 1 or Scenario 2 in the diagram I made below?

  • Scenario 2.   The FIOS router is in an upstairs bedroom, connected via Ethernet to one Eero. The Eero on the main floor is wirelessly connected to the upstairs Eero, and I then connected that main floor Eero via Ethernet to the laptop.

I would recommend disabling wifi on your Fios router to help make sure all your devices (not just your laptop) connect to your eero network. Also, if your computer is hardwired, it will still connect to a wifi network if available, but your computer will normally prioritize the ethernet connection since it knows that should be faster and more stable and route all the traffic across that connection.

  • When I installed the Eero I followed the instructions for FIOS, which involved bridging the system so I could still use the FIOS router for TV set top box connections.  My concern is that disabling Wifi on the FIOS router will interrupt my TV service.

  • CMoos: you were correct. I spoke with Verizon tech who understood the issue and he was able to disable the wifi on my router for me remotely. All is well now. Thanks!
