Virtual WLAN Interfaces for additional SSIDs

Having virtual WLAN interfaces (e.g wlan0.1, wlan0.2, etc.) would provide the ability to host multiple SSIDs on a single interface. I have used this capability with prior WiFi implementations to segment my home/private network from less trusted IoT/home automation devices given their propensity for lacking effective security controls and various additional and lesss secure communication channels. In combination with this, it would be beneficial to be able to restrict routing between these interfaces (e.g. bi-directional, a to b, or b to a).
