Request: Dynamic DNS Support
Support for a few basic DynDNS services (DynDNS, NoIp, etc) would be greatly appreciated for remote access.
Currently I'm having to run a control applet/service on my local PC to keep everything up-to-date (and it generally works); however being able to do it on the router would be ideal.
+1. Would love to have this, no-ip support would be great.
It says the status of this request is "UNDER CONSTRUCTION". I would assume that means it's actively being developed. Any idea how long this feature has been in development?
I recently purchased my first Eero wifi system and I do love it.
However, I was also a bit disappointed that there's no Dynamic DNS option. I believed Dynamic DNS is a very standard feature for all router already. I need to access my home machine / devices from work a lot and dynamic DNS is very important to me. I can sure use other alternative way such as install some application on a pc to update IP or even just do that manually once a while. However, the point is, such a standard feature shall be includes in such a new and advance piece of equipment.
So Eero team, please apply Dynamic DNS to eero system and make the system from a better home wifi system to "best" home wifi system.
I'd like to add a "me too" to this thread. Use cases:
As an existing Eero Plus subscriber that manages his own domain and possesses the knowledge to setup appropriate DNS settings, I'd like an easy way to access my home computer and pull files from it while I am on the road.
As an existing Eero subscriber that manages his own domain and possesses the knowledge to setup appropriate DNS settings, I would like to be able to access my home automation system while I am away from my house.
Please do not feel compelled to create your own DDNS service. I don't need you to create a <myEeroAccount>.eero.com redirect service. Instead, just support dyndns2 protocol and let those of us that know what we're doing configure away.
Last bit: I think it is absolutely appropriate for this functionality to be buried in the Advanced configuration area of your app. I fully appreciate the majority of your customers will not need this functionality. However, those of us that wish to have a great mesh network (which I think eero does an outstanding job delivering) also have "power user" needs as well. Remember, we're the cohort that has our friends and family members asking us for recommendations. For us to do so, we need the product to do what we need it to do before we tell others we like it -- even if they are never (in this case) going to ever need/use DDNS.
Thanks for the consideration...
heartbreaking to not see such a run-of-the-mill feature built in while Eero is pushing the subscription service so hard.
These arent inexpensive units. I’ve been pleased with the hardware and my network performance but I’m sure missing some of the low hanging fruit features that are basically industry standard features.
Very disappointed that these basic features are not supported. I'm still on my 30 day return period and even though overall I really like the Eero my choices are 1. Use Eero as an AP only (keep using OPNSense or a dedicated router as my FW/IDS/gateway). 2. convert my OPNSense box into a bridge only install and run it as another firewall layer and additional services (like DDNS which work brilliantly on OPNSense), 3. Return Eero and get a pure AP like Ubiquity.
I too would like to see this feature.
I would also like to see this feature.
I use dnsomatic.com for my dynamic DNS so that I can update multiple dynamic dns providers & openDNS with a single configuration.
This is a very useful feature to have within the router/firewall itself.
Can someone from eero please provide an update? I just set up my system, but will likely need to return for another mesh solution that includes this feature. Is this something that you are implementing soon, or do the multiple requests in this thread not justify this capability?
Eeero time to report on this matter. Please update.
Hi everyone —
Thanks for your continued feedback and interest in this feature. At this time, we don't have any updates to share. It is still something that continues to be under consideration, and as soon as I have more to share, I'll update this thread.
Thanks again for your feedback and contributions.
Just as an FYI for those that are looking for this feature, I've been running this on my Synology NAS (and I looked at my QNAP and Asustor NAS units and they also support DDNS) and it's rock solid and simple reporting.
BUT if you don't have a NAS I have deployed a bunch of these for friends lately (GL.iNet GL-MT300N) which Amazon now has on sale for $17 shipped. Why this? It not only supports OpenWRT but it comes with OpenWRT pre-installed. OpenWRT supports a large number of DDNS providers right off the bat (including Dynu and Dnsomatic my two goto for DDNS) but you can customize if yours is not on the list.
You just disable the Wifi and all other superfluous features (routing, NAT, DHCP, etc...), setup on your network and now you have DDNS on a low power set it and forget it box.
I also meant to say that that is just one suggestion (relatively easy one since openwrt is already installed and has a gui). you can use any number of cheap devices (and depending on how technical you are and willing to tackle a mini-me project). I've been playing with the Onion Omega2 (under $25 with the Ethernet dock). Those can do DDNS following these instructions: http://www.noip.com/support/knowledgebase/installing-the-linux-dynamic-update-client/
Orange Pi Zero is very nice too, I know friends that have flashed PogoPlug Mobiles and ZBT-WE1626 from china are decent for this kind of thing.
OK so it has been a YEAR and still no support for Dynamic DNS??? We have been using the eero for a few months now and its the holidays. Thought I would take the time to re-setup my access from the outside works only to find I have none??? I now need to repackage the units and take them back. This is seriously disappointing. This should have been a basic feature for this router. People access their HOMES from remote locations and I cannot with eero??
I just bought the Eero Pro setup and the lack of ddns was very disappointing. After reading the response from Eero and the obvious lack of desire to make customers happy, I'll return this with a smile on my face knowing my money will be spent elsewhere with a company that cares about it's customers.
Spending almost $500 and missing basic features that $40 routers have is unacceptable, especially when paired with the attitude they have. They must be too busy counting the money they are making instead of trying to improve the product in any meaningful way.
It truly baffles the imagination. My only guess is they're looking to bundle DDNS functionality into their Eero+ service and try billing for it.
When that happens I'm definitely moving on and never looking back (which is a shame, because I really liked their hardware once and previously recommended it to family, friends and coworkers). Not anymore.
If I could do it all over again: I'd picked a different mesh solution (Samsung, Google, Netgear).
I just bought and set up the eero and while I love the devices and the setup, I'm quite disappointed that I can't set up my phone system. My old Netgear router has it.
Any eta on when this will be available?
Mine requires a static IP or DNS name.
I wasn't looking for technical advice. I know what I'm doing and what I need. I don't have a static I from my provider. I need dyndns to work. Thank you.
