Request: Dynamic DNS Support

Support for a few basic DynDNS services (DynDNS, NoIp, etc) would be greatly appreciated for remote access.

Currently I'm having to run a control applet/service on my local PC to keep everything up-to-date (and it generally works); however being able to do it on the router would be ideal.

Much thanks.

Here is reply #100 seeking this feature - use case here is remote desktop access.  But should be simple implementation.  In the meantime, I'll have to drop the eeros into bridge more and use an ancient Apple Time Capsule as the router...

I just purchased this on Prime Day.  I am amazed it doesn't do DDNS!   Sending it back - at least Amazon has a good return policy.

I've just replaced an Asus mesh setup with an Eero Pro 6 rig at the recommendation of a friend and after spending hours getting everything set up "just so" - I come to discover that there's no dynamic DNS support.  Now I have to figure out how much hassle it's going to be to return the Eero and go back to the Asus as there's just too many home-based services that I need WAN access to.  If I'd been smart enough to ask about this feature before making my purchase, it would have been a deal-breaker.

Is there any kind of roadmap that is communicated that would allow me to know when this feature might be happening?

You're amazon.... make your own Dynamic DNS service and wrap it in to Eero + for free :)
    Eg: https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/startups/how-to-build-a-serverless-dynamic-dns-system-with-aws/

This was a feature on my previous router from TP-Link, to connect to a dynamic DNS service, which I used to be able to remotely access my security camera system/NVR.  Haven't been able to get an update client to work since I installed the Eero 6 Pro network.  Not sure if something in the Eero or the Eero Security service is blocking it maybe?

TimDroz You have to open up the ports needed for the remote camera. Most people set the camera to a port different than the camera default and then map the external port to the internal port. Its under Settings>Advanced>Reservations & Port Forwarding. You will also have to manually update the DNS service or run the app on a computer or device on your network instead of depending on the router to keep the external IP mapping current. It does not look like Eero is ever going to add the ability to connect to the dynamic DNS services directly.

Volzalum Yes, I've done this (port forwarding), the problem is that as my public-facing IP address changes, I lose access to the camera system.  That's what the DDNS is for - so I can create a hostname and keep that hostname pointed at the right IP address whenever it changes.  My old router had this capability built in.  Before that, I was able to use a client program to update the host record, but that client doesn't seem to be able to reach the internet anymore, I suspect that it's being blocked by Eero Secure.  I can try to figure out how to whitelist it, but the overall simpler and better solution would just be to have this as a feature in the router, like a great many other routers do.

TimDroz My NoIP reaches through fine to the internet as a client on my Macs, but I am not using Eero secure. And yes, this entire topic is a feature request to add the basic DDNS provider connection at the router level like most every other router on the market. I too would very much like the capability so I could more easily manage my DDNS changes.

My directions were how I am able to access my remote camera using an Eero and using the NoIp client on my Macs.

Volzalum thanks.  I am able to access the camera, as long as the app on my phone is pointed at the right IP address since the DDNS client doesn't seem to be working for me.  I voted and commented here because usually the way these things work is once there's a large enough demand for a feature, they'll prioritize development, so the more people that say they want a feature, the more likely they are to put it in the pipeline.

Curious is this feature is either on the roadmap or perhaps already implemented.

Skyedog This thread is an official feature request, but since the discussion thread was started four years ago and people are still asking for it today, it should be clear it's not yet implemented.  I can't say whether it's on their roadmap or not, but I somehow doubt it.

With all the advanced features of Eero, very sad that simple dynamic DNS updates are not supported!  The best place to watch for IP changes is in the router and using supplemental software is a terrible solution!  I figured this would at least be part of Eero Secure, but alas it is not.  Another vote for DNS-O-Matic which can update other services easily...

Can anyone on the eero team confirm or deny that this is a feature in development or at least under recent consideration?

Hard to believe that a feature this simple and important is left out. Guess I'm now wishing I'd read a little more carefully when I ordered my Eero stuff. +1 fo this request please!

I just want to add that I'm hoping to be able to configure arbitrary DDClient fields for any provider that supports the dyndns2 protocol or similar. Having some built in ones in a drop down is fine, but personally I use DNS-O-Matic to update multiple dynamic dns providers at once.

I would be kind of annoyed if this feature was added but I couldn't configure it the way I want.

chandlervdw Well, I believed I saw this suggestion 4 years ago, and Eero still not adding this feature. I believed they just don't care about our voice and will not act on that. I gave up already.

chandlervdw I gave up, too. I needed a NAS, so I’m using my Synology NAS to take care of dynamic DNS. It’s a shame, since this is a feature available in less sophisticated and cheaper network hardware.
