Replacing Apple Time Capsule with Eero
How can I replace my Time Capsule which I use as router and disk drive for TimeMachine with eero? Can I attach an external hard drive to the eero for Time Machine backup?

Hi dsquared22 —
Thanks for reaching out! You definitely can!
We actually have a Help Center article on how to bridge your Time Capsule to an eero network. You can find here. Please let us know if you need any further assistance.

I don't want to connect my Time Capsule - I want to get rid of it. My question is how to attach a hard drive to eero for purposes of Time Machine backup.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.
You can connect a hard drive to your eero network by either Ethernet or over WiFi. The USB port on the back of the eero is currently only for diagnostic purposes.
If you need any assistance, feel free to also give us a call at 1-877-659-2347 or email us at support@eero.com.

dsquared22 I am currently using a 4 TB WesternDigital MyCloud Mirror Network Access Storage device, connected to an Eero via the ethernet port. I was using an Apple Time Capsule, and this replaced it wonderfully. It was almost as easy as Eero to set up.

Could I just hook up a regular USB drive to the ethernet port with an adapter and use that as a time machine drive?

SeanL I do believe some people have done that, yes. It'll just see it as an ethernet connection to the drive. You just can't use the USB, as Jeff said.

Sorry to revive this topic. I just got an eero and I’m replacing an AirPort Extreme. I want To continue to use my Time Machine back ups. I understand the responses above. My concern is, if the airport is no longer supported by Apple, is there any security concern of having it as part of the network?
