Any ideas on how to connect a 10 year old Brother hl-2170 wireless printer? 2 hours of calls to eero and brother have not resolved.....

I have a HL-2170w as well and it’s always had issues for me on wireless—not just with eero. I often have to turn it off/on after sending a print job and then it finally will print.

I only print at home maybe 10x a year, so it’s not that big of a deal to me.

I just installed my first eero network and with a little google search and a bunch of persistence, I got my old HL-2170W up on the network.  All credit goes to this blog (http://appletechtalk.com/brother-hl-2270dw-wireless-setup) which specifically addresses getting the old Brother printers (which have been great workhorses) on to wireless networks.

I found the directions to be flawless.  In my situation the only things that could have used some clarification were as follows:

1.  For Authentification Method, I used: WPA/WPA2-PSK
2.  For Encryption Method, I used: AES
3. When asked for "Network Key or Passphrase", enter your wireless network password in the WEP section, NOT the section below it that has fills for UserID and Password

Also, in the 9th step of STEP THREE (Type the IP Address of the Brother machine Printer Settings report into the web browser address line), I found that it did not work on my PC that was wired to the network, but it worked well on my MacBook Pro that was on the network via WiFi. 

I was so thrilled that this worked that I had to share it as clearly others have encountered this same problem.

Thank you to kshimberg! Two years later & your post made it possible for me to get my Brother HL5370DW working wirelessly with my new Eero 6 network! Three calls to support & everything I found online had me convinced it wouldn’t work. But your instructions made it happen. I have AT&T fiber optic & Motorola BWG210-700 gateway in IP passthrough. I would only add to make sure you have turned off all wireless when setting up passthrough and delete all Brother drivers from your computer before starting wireless brother setup as detailed here. It is working beautifully! I don’t know why Brother can’t figure this out!! They say their printers are incompatible with Eero wirelessly! NOT TRUE FOR ALL. THANK YOU!
