Is there an advantage to the average user to use IPv6?

  • I rely on IPv6 to make several PCs on my network directly accessible over the Internet. My ISP gives me a 64-bit IPv6 subnet and every device gets a routable address. With IPv4, I get a single address and would have to set up a bunch of port-forwarding rules to expose these services to the Internet. Of course, I can only use this capability on clients with IPv6.

  • Thank you very much for this explanation. Is there somewhere you can suggest I go to earn more?

    • jshaw42 The IPv6 Wikipedia page offers a good overview of IPv6 and its differences from IPv4.
