Communication prohibited by filter

When I try to ping devices inside my network from other devices inside my network, I get the following response:

92 bytes from Communication prohibited by filter

Why is eero blocking internal pings? And how can I turn off ping blocking?

  • eero doesn’t block pings, so something else is going on. Are some devices on the guest network and some on the main? If so, that would cause this behavior as guest network devices can’t communicate with devices on the main network (and vice versa).

Is your eero connected to a modem or a modem/router combo?

cMoo92 No guest network is being used. All devices are on the same network. The eero is connected to a cable modem that is not a router. Also, the address that is responding to the pings is the eero.

    • Jiraffe that’s pretty strange. I’d suggest reaching out to eero support so they can look into the issue.

  • I was having this exact error today and eventually determined it was due to HomeKit Accessory Security.

I had one HomeKit device set to "Restricted" (an IP camera) but it seemed to be impacting a different device on the network. I changed the setting back to "Auto" (from the HomeKit app) and it immediately fixed the error: I was able to ping again and the device regained Internet access.

I had this set up like this for weeks--no idea why it suddenly started causing an issue. I've sent some details to Eero.
