Are the current beacons the same as those sold five years ago?

I have a eero model B010001 (Gen 2) with two beacons, all at least five years old.  I might want to improve the speed of the mesh network.  Poking around the eero site, I have come to understand that the beacons sold today are basically the same as those sold a half decade ago.  That is, all beacons are Gen 2.  To upgrade the network I would have to replace them with extenders or better yet other base units.  Is that correct?  Thank you in advance.

  • Thank you for the reply.  The implication of your post is that my answer is essentially "Yes, all Beacons have the same throughput so I could not replace them with a newer model and get an increase in network speed."  Given that Beacons plug into wall sockets I don't see the importance of using a low power protocol, but that's a different topic.
