Device unable to connect via eero on-board ethernet

I have a device (an Ultimate64 by Gideon) that cannot be seen when connected via either ethernet socket on an eero5 base (not the primary one). However, if I connect a cheap TP-Link switch to the eero, then connect the Ultimate64 to that, I can use the device (it still doesn't 'show' as connected in the eero app but I am able to FTP to it). I have the device set up with a static IP address and correct gateway/subnet settings. I have confirmed the cable and eero sockets work by connecting to a Win10 PC which works fine. Any ideas?!
