My Minecraft server can't port forward on eero (possibly because the external ip isn't static)

Hi, I was having a problem with port forwarding my Minecraft server and realized that the public ip that I can find by searching "what is my ip" on google is different then the external ip defined on my eero app. I tried to set the the DHCP external ip to static but then my wifi just goes out after I set it to static. Can you please tell me how to fix this?

  • Hi there, NaNo ! It sounds like you're set up in a double NAT configuration currently. Do you have another router in front of your eeros? If so, you'll either want to bridge your upstream router or set your port forwarding rules on both your eeros and your upstream router. Give that a try and let me know if you see an improvement. (=

  • Thank you for the response, but I don't think I will need to bridge for this but I could try to set up port forwarding on both of my eeros. So just to make this clear, I have an *eero router* and an *eero range extender thingy* so 2 eeros, but my real question is how do I setup port forwarding on both eeros, because it only gives me one option in *advanced* to setup reservations and port forwarding but I don't know if it can port forward to my 2nd eero from there as well? I can send some pictures if you want, of my eero app.

    • NaNo Port forwarding settings will apply to your entire eero network, so you don't need to worry about port forwarding multiple times for each eero.

      I apologize for not being clear in my response, what kind of modem / modem router device is your main eero connected to? What is the make and model of that device?

  • I don't really know what modem it is but (I think I can say my ISP openly) my ISP is metronet. Would I have to call them and buy a static ip from them or something? The modem isn't like any other modem, it is mounted to the wall and through a tiny thin green ethernet cable looking thing runs from that to the eero gateway router that I have. Hopefully this picture can help you understand how this is all connected and I hope you can determine what is the modem and what is not.

    • Thanks for the picture, NaNo ! You could contact your ISP for a static IP address, yes, but you'll still need to be able to set up port forwarding successfully. We'd like to be able to take a look into your network to diagnose what's going wrong.       Kora (eero Support) Hi my External IP changed recently I think. It just changed out of no where, maybe because I set my router to have static ip or something else.
