multiple names for single devices?

ok, seems every time I leave the house, when I come back, or anyone with a smart phone it says a new device has joined, and creates another name for the device, same name, but different connection.  this creates an issue for the devices that are in a profile, so when that profile pauses devices, it won't pause because it is viewed as a new or different device.  anyone else having this issue, how can this be prevented?

  • Devices are identified by their MAC address.  Android now has a feature that generates a random MAC address every time it connects to a network.  You can turn this off on the device itself.

is this possible on iPHone?  If so,where do I find it?  Or is this a rudder setting?

    • Phalkon I have no idea about Apple products.  What is a rudder setting?

  • Similar, but I see the blue "NEW" tag next to our iphones, iPads, etc. However, they are not separate instances and are the same name and icon that I had originally given them.

KiloMikeDFW ok, this is what support says.  go to wifi, tap on the network name, and turn off private address.  they say if this is on, IOS generates a new Mac address every time the device connects to the network.  they say once this is off, it won't happen any more, and the old names will drop off after a week.
