unable to connect HP LaserJet Pro M12w printer

Hi,

Just got my new TalkTalk WiFi but unable to connect my HP LaserJet Pro M12w printer to the network.

with my old broadband modem, there was a WPS switch to help connect this printer but seems eero doesn't have anything like that and all the devices can only be connected through eero app.

can anyone guide me on how to set up this printer, please?

thank

  • Hi Nrupen eero does not support WPS connections, we list that in an article here: https://support.eero.com/hc/en-us/articles/209962973-Frequently-asked-security-questions-

From what I am seeing on HP's setup guide for this printer: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05187616.pdf (Section 5)

You will have to setup the printer on the eero's WPA2 network via the driver install process.

I would recommend contacting HP if you need a walkthrough on doing this.  eero generates a WPA2 PSK AES network.

  • I did contact HP today and they tried to do everything they can to set it up but eventually, nothing worked they suggested below:

"I would kindly ask you to please contact your Internet Provider so they can separate frequencies to 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, and open the necessary ports for you. Those ports are TCP and UDP Ports: 45222 & 45223, 80, 5353, 5358, 5222, 5223, 5357, 3702, 443, 427, 8080, 209, 1900, 5298, 5350, 5351. "

called TalkTalk but they are hopeless :(

    • Nrupen For the eero the frequencies cannot be separated, they will both use the same SSID.  You can temporarily hide 5ghz to leave just 2.4 visible for devices.  Do this by going to eero app->Settings->Troubleshooting->My Device Can't Connect->My Device is 2.4 only.  That will give you the button and will temporarily hide the 5ghz for about 10-15 minutes.

If you are using an app/computer to setup the printer on the network make sure that device switches over to 2.4 band (toggling wifi after pressing the hide button in the eero app would do it) before trying the setup.

It is strange that they are asking you to open firewall ports.  Those are only for devices after they have been connected to the network.  The firewall ports will allow outside devices to send communication to the device the ports are pointed to.

However, if you want to open the ports, here is how: https://support.eero.com/hc/en-us/articles/207908443-How-do-I-configure-port-forwarding-

The printer has to be connected to the network for port forwards to be setup and to work.
