Best Setup with Google Fiber?

I just setup 3 eeros in my home.  I have Google Fiber and want to confirm that the best setup is to hook up to my fiber router with the eeros in bridge mode.  This setup gives excellent upload speeds (700+ Mbps) but my download speed is lower than I anticipated (200 - 280 Mbps).  My home is two stories and about 4000 square feet.  Thanks for any help or advice.

    Hey there, gatordoc87 —

Thanks so much for sharing your question, and welcome to the eero community! Drew with the eero Support Team here—I've got a little familiarity with Google Fiber, so we should be able to figure out just what's going on!

After checking out your network, I definitely see what you mean about the download speed being lower than expected. We've made a lot of improvements to the speedtest feature in the eero app, but there's always the possibility of an erroneous reading on our side. I'm curious to know if you've tried a dedicated speedtest service like speedtest.net or speedof.me to corroborate those results across other devices. If you haven't, I'd encourage you to do so—it could very well just be an inaccurate result on the eero app itself!

Past that, if you've confirmed that the speeds remain low across multiple devices—both wirelessly and hardwired into the primary eero—then our next best option is to check the physical components at play here. In this case, trying out another Ethernet cable between the Google Fiber Network Box and the primary eero is an easy step to try; additionally, we can try swapping to a different port in the back of the Network Box itself. On the off chance that the Ethernet port or the cable are compromised in any way, this will give us immediate results.

If these options also prove fruitless, then I'd encourage you to give us a call at (877) 659-2347 or to shoot an email to support@eero.com so that one of our WiFi Experts can assist you more closely and get to the bottom of this. Of course, please feel free to also reply here and I'll offer whatever additional assistance I can!

Thanks again for taking the time to reach out, and have a great day!

    Kindly,
    Drew

Thanks.  It was faster using a dedicated speedtest service, but in addition I added a fourth eero and it helped even more.

I have a related question. I have Google Fiber here is my setup and I am wondering if this is the best:

Fiber comes in to the Google Modem (first gen from 3+ years ago with built in Wifi). From there to...

    • Gigabit switch to support Cat5e in 5 rooms in my house
    • Eero hanging off that, with a Beacon upstairs.

I have challenges with devices falling back to my Google Wifi (worse performance in my opinion). However, I also feel like it might be impacting my overall Eero performance.

Should I try to find a way to just shut the Google wifi off? Are there any settings I can play with to optimize?
