Feature Request: Bandwidth Monitor

With Comcast and others adding bandwidth caps id love to get internal alerts since Comcast numbers are so out of whack.

  • I see I'm answer my own question. FINALLY! I just upgraded my firmware and viola! Houston, we have a launch! It's there! Per device data consumption! (though it costs $3/month to get access). Now I'll order the Pro 6 and see what kind of speed/coverage improvements I realize. This thread can finally be closed.

    • Mgreer316 they've provided per device for a while now, although it's a little cumbersome.  What I need and I think a lot of the other folks here is total bandwidth across all devices.  If they could just add them up, that would go a long way for a lot of us.  So this is definitely shouldn't be closed yet.

ANeeroFull No, they haven't. This is new and exactly what we've been waiting for. This appears to be a part of version 6 level firmware that's just been released to coincide with the Pro 6 release I'm assuming.

      Like
    • Mgreer316 That does look exactly like what we all need, but I just updated my app and eeros and still not there.  Maybe they've only updated the Android app (I'm on iPhone)?

I do pay for Secure+ btw, so that can't be the reason it's missing.  Kinda disappointing that if it's now available, at least on android, they wouldn't mention it here or anywhere else, including the release notes.

ANeeroFull Yes, I'm on Android. They flagged/announced the new capability in the app. But nowhere else as far as I can tell and I've been looking for any new information after the rehearse of the Pro 6.

ANeeroFull When you updated you're app did your system reset? Mine did so I'm wondering if the firmware was also updated?

      Like
    • Mgreer316 Mine did.  Both my phone app and eero status both say they were updated.  I'm curious, did your release notes mention this as one of the new features?

This is all mine (both app and fw) says:

      • Support for eero 6 and eero Pro 6
      • Smart Home Hub: eero 6 systems connect your Zigbee smart home devices to Alexa
      • Frustration-Free Setup: Link your Amazon account to seamlessly connect supported devices to your eero networks
      • System stability and security improvements

and then apparently there was a 6.0.1 firmware release on 11/1 that simply says:

      • System stability improvements

  • Questions:

    1) Is this only for the new eeros? and if so can I just add one of those to my network and get this or do I have to replace all my eeros (I have a large network with 7 eeros).

    2) is this part of eero Secure+ or an additional subscription?

No mention if it comes to all eero devices or just the new ones. The link above doesn't indicate hardware requirements so I am hopeful.

      Moses YAY!

I have a ton of network tools in my home office for the job, so I've always known what my Eeros are doing from a traffic standpoint.

What I didn't have was SNMP support for the Eeros themselves. Again, not a deal breaker since I can see more than the average bear.

Overall...this is the best consumer grade router hardware I've owned...and I've owned a LOT.

  • Regarding iOS, I'm thinking their user base of iOS devices is probably their biggest base. Therefore, rolling out to a smaller Android base gives them the opportunity to troubleshoot any issues before the bigger base gets it. That's just me guessing.

  • I know it's irritating to have to pay for this capability, but on the plus side it's only $30/year ($2.50/month) if purchased annually. Additionally, the execution is thorough. It took them long enough but I must say they did their homework. It's not a half baked retrofitted implementation. Now if we could only get a web interface.

    Like
  • I find it very irritating that reddit has more details and specifics than here in eero's own community. Anyway, here's the deal on how they've implemented access to this feature.

"To clarify for those that don't have it yet - this is a freemium feature.

You can view live data and weekly metrics free.

If you want daily or monthly reports, you have to pay for Eero Secure."

Eero Secure is $30/year ($2.50/month) if paid in full or $3/month ($36/year) if paid monthly.

I could be wrong, but if you want to inspect usage on the device level to find out which devices are hogging data, then I believe you must subscribe.

eero_user I find it a bit disturbing as well, along with the whole concept of having to create an online account for something that should be local to my network.

In practice, for this whole bandwidth monitor thread, I just wish they supported SNMP and people could choose what solution they want to use for metrics and monitoring.

Thank you!!!!!!  For this alone, eero 6 was worth the upgrade.  This is the biggest giant step in my smart home world since Nest thermostat.  Thank you!

Even if I don't get the monthly data for free, it is very useful.

Nkrueger38 Yes and no. You'll get the current week's aggregate and device usage free. However, if you want to drill down to daily use or monthly use and individual device hourly use you'll have to pony up the $3/month of $30/year Secure fee.

Nkrueger38 I should also add that the ability to drill down on a specific device to see hourly data consumption will help you isolate where data leaks are. And if you have younger kids you can see if anybody is gaming or on social al media at 3AM when they should be asleep!

  • This reporting is great but it seems to report an inaccurately high amount of usage by my eero devices themselves. For instance, yesterday it says my 7 eero Devices used 1.5 GB down and 633 MB up for 73% of my usage! I also track daily internet usage with my ISP and I actually only used about 2 GB total, so this is completely off. There are hours when almost no internet usage is occuring according to my ISP that it says the eero Devices are using alot. The device usage reporting on my non-eero devices seems very accurate though, so that is good (and more important).
