Nest Cam not connecting to nearest beacon

I have a eero base in my basement and then three beacons spaced evenly through out the house. In all but one case devices connect to the nearest eero device with the strongest single but my Nest cam on the driveway for some reason does not connect to the beacon that is with in 20 feet of it but instead connects to the one furthest away with a weaker signal.   Other devices connect to the beacon that is near the nest cam just fine.

  • And is this still happening after you power cycle the camera?

  • I have not power cycled the nest cam.  I have unplugged the beacon it was connected to at which point the nest cam did connect to the closest beacon. I figured it was fixed so plugged the first beacon back in.  Checking later the nest cam reconnected to a different beacon than originally but still one with a weaker signal than the closest one

cMoo92 agreed. Unlike most of my other 50+ devices, my Nest cams tend to stick too unless I motivate them. (Is that a new networking term for 2018?)

    • rmccarra What happens if you unplug the farther away beacon that the camera is currently connected to?

  • It connects to a closer beacon but not the one that is physically closest to it.

    • rmccarra I’d try to keep unplugging beacons until it connects to the closest one. If it still doesn’t, then I’d try factory resetting the camera and join it back to your network.

Since you have other devices connecting to this beacon, this issue is more likely a problem with the camera choosing not to connect to the nearest beacon, and less likely anything to do with the beacon itself. It’s always up to the end device to choose what network/access point to connect to—the eero can’t force it to choose a specific eero.
