WiFi From House to Shop

Have a shop (metal) that is 130ft from the house and needing to get internet out there. My current plan is to burry a ~200ft ethernet cable that is plugged into the gateway eero and plum it into the shop. From there I would either directly connect it to the computer for the time being and/or plug in a 4th eero. Would this work? What other option do I have? Looking for the most minimum cost.

  • Yup, that plan will work. The only possible alternative would be if you already have coax running out to your shop, you could put MOCA Ethernet converters on each end and use that instead of running the network cable. That’s what I personally do to get my network out to my shop, although at some point I do plan on running Ethernet so I have full gigabit bandwidth.

  • Hello,

Being that the distance is 130ft from the house, the most affordable option is going to be running the cable out to the shop. Plugging in the computer or another eero at the shop side will both work. Other options are going to be significantly more expensive than running the line out to the shop. When you are running the ethernet though I would make sure to future proof it by using at least Cat5e ethernet to ensure that your are good for speeds up to 1 gig/sec.

If you have any additional questions please let me know,
