How to transition from eero 6 to eero 6 pro?

I've been having too many issues getting reliability out of a new eero 6 system over the past 3-1/2 months.  It may be too much local interference in the 2.4 GHz band.

So I'm going to try upgrading to the tri-band eero 6 pro mesh instead to reduce my use of the 2.4 band.  Is there a way to do this transition and preserve all my custom device names mapped to MAC addresses that I've created in the eero app?  Maybe by first adding one eero 6 pro to the existing mesh and then making it the gateway.  Then add the other eero 6 pro and then finally remove the eero 6's.  Since all eero versions are supposed to play nice with each other, I am wondering if this approach will work - or will I encounter any issues transitioning this way?

Your plan of adding an eero 6 Pro to the existing network first and then physically swapping it with your existing eero gateway will work (you literally just swap them out--you don't have to change anything in the app). But I doubt upgrading to the 6 Pro is going to make any difference for the issues you're experiencing. If you haven't already, I would highly recommend reaching out to eero support and have them take a look at your network and see if they can identify any issues that might be causing your problems.

I did that and eero tech suggested going to either a pro 5 or pro 6 tri-band to avoid the extreme level of interference he observed in the 2.4 band.  I hope he’s right because debugging my eero mesh and all the IoT devices that used to work and arent anymore has been taking up way too much of my time.

If he is correct about the level of interference, then conceptually it seems that having a 5 Ghz backhaul should speed things up.  Probably won't make a difference with the IoT incompatibility issues though.

Unfortunately, I don't have ethernet for wired backhaul.  I tried using MOCA, but couldn’t maintain a connection.  Hoping I won’t have to resort to paying $1000+ to add some ethernet drops just to make it work.

cMoo92  But thanks for confirming that the swap idea will work !
