Block (Blacklist) certain websites

I need to have the ability to block certain websites in the profiles area. It would also be great to have the ability to whitelist certain sites as well.

common, eero, where is this?  school from home is starting back up and kids are gonna be tempted to watch youtube all day instead of doing their work.  we need this immediately.  i am already looking for other options in case this is not added here in the next few weeks.

This has been needed for too long. Please implement this before online schooling starts again. Parents across the country are counting on you to help us and our kids out with this functionality.

Was really excited to see an update yesterday (3.19.1) in hopes that it’d contain this feature.  Unfortunately it still seems to be missing

such a disappointment. I think it’s time to turf my Eero APs

(this feature request is over 2 years old I believe)

    :-(

Sadly it seems EERO has no intention of actually adding this feature.  We have had to find other options, which is disappointing because the hardware works so well otherwise.

@junie_y @jeff_c @chris_s @evan_eero_support @kora_eero_support @zack_eero_support   How about an update on this feature request? You are leaving a lot of disgruntled parents hanging out here with few options.

Especially with remote learning this feature seems absolutely necessary to help ensure that kids are staying on task during the school day. I bought an eero assuming that it would have this kind of granularity (my bad for not checking, but it's a pretty common feature), and I'm likely to let the trial expire and just go back to OpenDNS.

Ok, tired of waiting for Eero team to provide this feature (custom blacklist).  I resolved my issue by purchasing the Circle Home Plus unit for $70 from Best Buy and connecting it to my Eero base unit.  The base functionality (no subscription required) of the Circle will allow you to create profiles and then restrict certain popular websites (like YouTube) as well as allow you to add your own custom websites to block (filter).  The base features also includes Usage Time and History (which is great as you can start to block numerous sites you did even know your kids were going to).

There is a subscription service as well that will provide some of the same features as Eero so you could use their advanced services and cancel Eero's subscription or use Eero advanced services and just use Circle Home Plus base features.

Here is link to Circle page where you can purchase for $69 or check Best Buy:

    https://shop.meetcircle.com/products/circle-home-plus-parental-controls

If Eero team could ever update their software to do all the things the Circle is doing it would be perfect.

Hope this helps all the parents out there struggling to keep their kids focused on their school work during the day.  Especially those with Chromebooks issued by school that do not provide any way to apply restrictions.

cfinley I also gave up and bought a circle, plugged into the base eero, which seems to be doing a great job

Agreed. This is a must have feature, in my opinion. Hopefully it will be prioritized soon. YouTube is a constant source of angst between my kids and I, and would love to have it disabled on their devices at the network layer. Thanks!

I'm updating my Amazon review for this product because everyone should know that it comes with basically no security features in terms of blacklisting/whitelisting. I wish I had known that when I bought it, at least. This is a NO BRAINER and if eero can't get with the program and recognize a need that existed long before we were all working and schooling from home, then I'm better off just buying a stronger router (or two) and going back to using OpenDNS. It has been a nightmare having four kids at home distance learning while they have free rein over the internet when I'm not looking. With two autistic kids who don't understand what's appropriate behavior or that the school monitors what they're viewing on their school-issued Chromebooks, I depend on a product that provides reliable and consistent internet protection for my kids and what we are getting now with eero is not cutting it. It's extremely frustrating that this simple request for a blocking feature has been ignored for THREE YEARS now. Everyone should update their product reviews NOW so that other parents don't unwittingly purchase this without realizing how lacking in safety features it really is.

P.S. does anyone have any experience with this Netgear mesh system? At least with a Netgear, I can go back to using Netgear Genie to blacklist whatever I want through OpenDNS which was such a valuable tool back when we were only using a Netgear router.

jems1304 Netgear Orbi was my favorite mesh router until I realized their blacklist only worked with Internet Explorer and Edge. My chrome users never experienced the black list, even with the latest firmware updates. I switched to Eero and realized the feature isn't even a feature. 😃 Boo...

oceanmotion this is a link to a reply from an eero employee a couple weeks ago:

But since conversations started around this feature years ago, taking this timing with a grain of salt is advisable.

Just as, if not more, important than blacklisting is whitelisting. In order to allow access to Discord (used for chat/audio by my kids when playing games with their friends), I had to turn off the adult content filter. That is ridiculous.

Mog I have all filters turned on for the kiddos and their discord clients work just fine.  You might have a different issue going on.

Just ponied up for the Eero Plus subscription thinking this feature was a given. Surprised that it's not. Looks like users have been begging for this feature for years. What's up!?
