Block (Blacklist) certain websites

I need to have the ability to block certain websites in the profiles area. It would also be great to have the ability to whitelist certain sites as well.

Are we able to block specific sites for specific devices yet?  I just bought my eeros so I need to figure this out quick and return it if I can’t do it (unless there is something else I can add on).

I’ll even take having to block a website for all devices. I just need to block YouTube while my son is doing his homework. I’ve hunted around in the app and I don’t see a way to do this.

I don’t want to block anything else, just YouTube.

I see that was the original request three years ago so I’m guessing if it hasn’t happened it’s not happening?  Do I have other options better than returning my eeros.

my request is very specific. The ability to block a website or unblock a website whenever needed for a specific device.

      Sieglock said:
You can also add specific websites via the Block and Allow functionality.

How do I do this?  The only "block" functionality I see is to block a device.  I see no "block and allow" functionality.

Pololo34 Yes, you can do it.   You have the choice of blocking youtube for everyone or just specific Profiles/devices.   For example, for my son, I put his iPad and computer in the same profile.   I select his profile.  At the bottom you select, “Block & Allow Sites.”   You can also do a universal block of youtube by clicking on Discovery at the bottom of the app -> eero  Secure -> Block & Allow Sites.  In addition, both ways allow you to block categories of sites under a specific profile then “Content Filters”  For example you can block all Social Media sites.

Sdtoddl Thanks I tried blocking youtube.com and it worked, despite what I am reading from others on these threads. My son is on a Chromebook so I think he should have the same Chrome problem others mentioned but the blocking was successfull, at least on his school issued Chromebook.

It feels like there is a war going on with companies like Google trying to make it hard to block access to their websites.

Is that what's going on?  If so, I vote for regulation.  My first thought was, make it illegal for them to make it difficult to block their websites.  My second thought is, their websites are designed to be addictive.  They should be required by law to make it easy to block their websites.  The whole business model of all of these companies is to profit off the addictive nature of human beings.  Facebook, Google, YouTube, Netflix, Instagram, even news websites, video games, etc.  It's just unregulated Nicotine.  Their goal is to profit off our addiction to them.  It's no wonder figuring out how to block their websites is such a challenge.  We are basically sitting here trying to figure out how to put a dent in their business model.

Pololo34 And the irony is I'm posting this on an Amazon forum.  Amazon is no different.

Thank you for trying to implement this feature at last, but quite frankly, it just doesn't work. At all. After adding several sites to the blocked list, my son can still access them without issue. There aren't "bad" sites per say, but like many others, he gets way too distracted and needs help staying on the sites he's allowed to access.

Shaun H I would contact tech support. I have/had the same issues as you are having with a need to block sites during the school day. The blocking is working for me. I have called tech support a couple of times and both times they were surprisingly provide excellent support. - One thing I want to point out is Apple implemented private wifi mac addresses on some of their devices. You have to turn this off otherwise each time the device joins the wifi, it spoofs a new hardware MAC address to stop tracking. The Eero is setting up the profile based upon the MAC address. https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT211227. (That was one of my support calls.) I don’t believe the OS for the computer has that feature so your problem may be something else. I did notice when I blocked Netflix on his computer, it took a few minutes to implement. - Like I said, I would call tech support. I am sure they will get to the bottom of it.

Shaun H you are using Chrome and this is where the issue comes in. Chrome uses "helper" apps and uses encrypted connections to allow website that you have blocked in Eero app to load - see the screenshot below. As you can see youtube is blocked (not loading in Safari, but Chrome has it loaded - no problem). Eero developers should take a note of this phenomena.

Was really hoping, perhaps unrealistically, that this would also block/filter the corresponding APPS to all of these aforementioned http/https... - such as SnapChat, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, etc, etc, etc

Thus far in my usage, blocking YouTube (for example) works for browser access, but does nothing to block the YouTube app (available on virtually every platform, not to mention the Chrome Helper 'apps' previously mentioned).

ktro I also think this would be ideal.

Now I'm VERY EAGER to have the scheduled blacklisting of sites in place.  I need to disable access to my distractions while working from home.  It's really important.

Thank you to the eero team for implementing this new feature! For me, it's working exactly as described for my setup now.

Previously, I had to redirect the DNS to OpenDNS and block individual sites there, but the new Block/Allow feature lets me control access for specific profiles right in the app. I can block epicgames and the nvidia gaming interface for my son's devices, and it breaks the Internet connections of the gaming desktop apps and websites. I can add the Block during normal school hours and remove it later.

Currently, it's a manual process to add the Block and then remove it, but the eero team announced that a scheduling feature is coming next. I really appreciate the ongoing development.

    Hello all

None of the filter features of actually working. I'm trying to block sites and no matter what I do they're still open. The feature is not working. I called the technical support team and I have yet to hear back from them why it is not working.

I'm seriously considering returning the eero 6. If I can't do the basics then I don't need it

I'm a paying customer to their secure plus and I should get these things to work

+1 request for a schedulable allowlist/denylist for specific websites, so that (for example...) kids don't get sucked into You/Tube during school hours.  Super important, especially with so many kids attending school remotely from home now.

To anyone from the UK, this feature is ONLY available with Eero's subscription service, Secure, which is not offered to UK users.

    Very annoying.

Asheboy To save the rest of the world the trouble I'd like to expand on this: the subscription is only available in the US and Canada. I'm off to buy Orbi.

Hi Jeff C., I am hoping that you add this feature so I can block by domain and by specific website.  Thank you.

Hi.  So, I have a couple of Eero 6 Pros from my ISP.  Really sad to find out they have no web interface and that there is absolutely no way to control or configure from a computer.  Anyhoo, trying to blacklist ad delivering domains, and the only way to do it is to add them ONE AT A TIME, WITH MULTIPLE TAPS ON A PHONE.  No way to load a list.  This is barbaric.  Kinda forcing clients to go buy another device simply because of the very strange way y'all chose to implement this.  Please change this.  It isn't 2001 anymore.
