Feature Request: Add support for PPPoE

many ISPs, including CenturyLink require PPPoE. Without this support, eero cannot be used as a router and only as a bridge.

Thanks for submitting this feature request! We've heard interest in PPPoE support a bit before the community came about, so it'll be great to have any discussion/interest taking place here as well.

    Thanks again!

      Jeff C. any update?

I'm pretty sure that the business case to justify the development is there, the lack of PPPoE support forces many users to be on bridge mode and therefor eero Plus won't work for us, if this is enabled a % of users will join eero plus and could justify the development of the feature itself.

The long wait makes me think that there is some limitation on eero itself or some overhead that could negatively affect eero if PPPoE is implemented.

I'm just trying to make sense of why this has been in "consideration" for 12 months.

PPFS I have to admit this might be the case for me. Now that I've moved and now have a new ISP, eero Plus is no longer as useful now that I have to bridge my connection. I now have to reconsider renewing butI hope they make that decision easier.

Thanks for checking in. We don't have any update to share at this time. In regards to the status, Under Consideration is the tag we use for a feature we would consider down the line. There isn't a timeline associated with this, but once we have an update, we'll share that with this thread.

      Jeff C.

thats an insanely vague response to a group of customers that pay an insanely large amount of money for network devices. I’m sure it’s the generic response you’re required to provide, but pass on to your supervisors that this type of answer just angers rather than helps.

Thanks for the reply. My response wasn't intended to be vague or generic — rather, I wanted to be transparent for those that see PPPoE as an important feature for supporting their network and not looking to mislead anyone.

For what it's worth, I have family that lives in Arizona and they use CenturyLink with PPPoE. For them, I "double-NAT'd" their network, meaning I connected their eero gateway to another PPPoE router. In that setup, they are able to use all the features of eero without their network being placed in bridge mode.

While it isn't a perfect solution, it does work and bypasses the limitations set by the requirements of a PPPoE supported router.

Jeff C. Hi, is there any update? Christmas is coming and this feature is clearly a deal breaker for people that need PPPoE so good to know when making the decision of considering eero as a good gift.

Jeff C. any update, the request was put 3 years ago and we heard from you last year, more people are asking here in the threat, would be great to have any update.

PPFS The development team has reported that it causes severe performance issues when implemented on their devices.

txgunlover define "performance issues" maybe some users dont mind as long as they get their connection.  Some poeple were saying the devices were bad because they had 600mbit/s internet connection and the eero was only able to output 200mbit/s over wifi.
My current isp speed is 60mbit/s so i dont mind, also.. I believe it is better to have a feature with a warning about performance than not having it at all, or maybe under experimental features.

the request still under consideration, I guess some day they will found out a solution to this.

Strong +1 for this feature. Also on CenturyLink 1Gbit fiber, and they require both PPPoE and VLAN tagging functionality in the router.

Another +1 here. DSL connection mandatory double NAT is not ideal.

+1 for me too.  BIzarre that eero doesn't offer this already.  Because of this limitation, I've been stuck on bridge mode since I started using eero. (Eneko, if you don't want to doubt NAT, you can use in bridge mode but that's not ideal either,,,)

This would allow a fair few people to ditch their main router too.  Google wifi supports this now so seems like a no brainer...

bryzi good point. I bought eero early, in the fundraising stage,  i have 4 in my homenow,  but Google WiFi is coming on fast. I'm also using CL fiber and hope I don't have to replace my eeros.

Denash97227 yup, im currently considering options on this and google wifi is high on my list.  pricey to swap and i dont want to but may not be left with much choice.  Most eero dev effort of late seems to have gone into v2 and and the over priced eero plus.

Jeff C. Should my original gen-1's (also purchased during fundraising stage) ever die (and they are already past projected MTBF) without eero support of either PPPoE or Multi-G (even 2.5G) ethernet support, I will absolutely be ditching them for a solution that does.  Having support for 802.11ax is great. But eero/Amazon needs to understand that most eero users want to use their equipment as their primary/only routing / filtering / security system.  And the pieces that are missing might have been OK 5 year ago, but they just aren't anymore.  Eero is no longer "State of the Art" and they need to reclaim that position.

Any chance someone from eero could let us know if this is now being worked on?  Any update would be appreciated.

I agree -- we've had configuration problems with our CenturyLink modem/router and using it in transparent bridge mode with my old router helped a lot. I'd like to be able to do this with my eero devices.

Well shame on me for spending $500 on a set of Eero's without googling "CenturyLink Eero bridge". If it's true Eero didn't bother with supporting PPP - an extremely common protocol used by extremely large ISPs, then these now have to go back.

It never occurred to me that these wouldn't support a feature every other router I've owned or seen does!

I bought these after hearing how 'advanced' and simple they are. I want to use the management features the app offers and the great WiFi mesh, but I've spent a lot of money wiring my home with Cat6, and buying Gigabit Internet service. I don't want to now worry about poor internet and problems from sloppy NAT & DHCP handling with 2 routers - nor give up the features I just overpaid for.

I've now wasted hours to this effort because eero hid behind their whole "we're so easy" persona without divulging their weaknesses in any tech specs. Feels like another example of Bay Area single-mindedness... our ISP's don't use PPPoE so why would we support something like that?

    Shocking and disappointing eero. farewell.

I guess I should have picked Google WiFi.

Recently switched from Comcast to CenturyLink Fiber and I'm sad that I can't use my eero as my router now. Please add PPPoE and VLAN IDs!

Thanks for your comment  rcdemski  —

As a few others have mentioned, you can definitely still use your eero with CenturyLink. While it won't be able to function as the only router, you can set it up behind your PPPoE router in either double NAT or bridge mode.

We understand it may not be ideal for now but we're always working on making eero better, so thanks to everyone for chiming in and keeping this discussion going.
