Assign a device to a specific eero

I was recently going through my connected device list and noticed I have some of my devices connected to an eero which isn't the closest one to it.  Wouldn't it make more sense to bind a device to a specific eero?  For example, my Ring doorbell is maybe 10 - 15 feet from the closest eero but it is connected to one upstairs and further away.  Not sure if that would cause a QoS kind of issue but for stationary devices I don't see them moving from one eero to another (Nest products, Amazon Echo, Ring doorbell, etc.)

  • I have this problem as well. My Samsung TV gets connected to eero in the bedroom instead of the one in the hallway which is closer. I guess I am experience this more as both of my eero devices are too close to each other, but I have no other choice but to use more than one as my Wifi powerboards in the bedroom won't talk back to the Wifi router more than certain distance. It would have been a lot easier if I could assign certain devices or all devices part of a profile to always connect to specific eero devices

  • I just bought a extender and was looking for a solution for my ring camera. Now i am thinking of returning it  back to amazon as i can not connect my ring doorbell camera. it stays connected to the main eero no matter what i do. My phone is right next to the main router but connects to the extender. Years of complaints and eero finest technicians cant solve the problem that 90 percent of your customers have a issue with nor care to even read about or can because there are so many of the same comments over and over again. i just read these comments for a hour hoping to find a solution. but just saw disappointment after disappointment

PLEASE FIX THIS EVERYONE IS PRETTY MUCH BEGGING YOU AT THIS POINT WORD OF MOUTH WILL CATCH UP EVENTUALLY. YEARS OF COMPLAINTS GUYS COME ON. IF YOU WILL NEVER OFFER A SOLUTION TELL US SO WE CAN MOVE ON INSTEAD OF LEADING US ON WITH VAGUE RESPONSES.

  • Any status update for this issue? It's a very basic ask specially in this modern network mesh times.

  • I didn't initially have this problem, but it has recently become regular and made even surfing the internet untenable. My desktop is in a basement with an eero beacon ~7 ft away without obstruction, but my desktop is constantly jumping between that beacon and another two stories above. The weaker 2.4 Ghz signal is bad, but the constant loss of signal and "change of network" detected by sites and services is debilitating. No devices have been added to the network in between it working as intended and the bug appearing.

In addition to disconnecting/reconnecting, restarting the desktop, beacon resets, eero network resets, and modem + network resets, I've repositioned the upstairs beacon, activated/deactivated Client Steering, and adjusted my WiFi adapter settings. Other static devices without dedicated IPs are not experiencing the problem. One other device with a dedicated IP is experiencing the same problem, two stories above next to the other beacon. Other static devices with a dedicated IP are not experiencing this problem.

I realize that after 4 years and a new generation of products I'm just yelling into the void about this and don't ever expect to see this issue resolved with an update. For the next generation, please consider adding just one ethernet port to the beacons, as it would make solving this problem cheap and easy.

    • Sn0wlfake This definitely doesn't solve your problem, but there are offers for you to trade in a device and get a new one for a lower price. You could trade in the beacon and get a new $69 eero wifi router (the small ones with the Ethernet port). Your comment and many others here make me think that Eeros are less future-proof than I was expecting them to be when I invested in the system early on.

  • 5 years and still nothing ? Eero team- you should be ashamed !
I was really happy and optimistic about Eerro ,  but my PC is connecting to extender that is 5m from PC giving me max 6MB/s download , meanwhile while connected to eero 6 (main router 9m from PC) i got full speed of 28MB/s ! Huge difference, but im not able to assign my PC to main router and enjoy full speed of my internet!  Have to keep resetting extender so PC is getting connected with main router.

  • I've given up. I have 4 Eero 6 Pros for sale if anyone is interested. I have moved to Ubiquiti Unifi and very happy for it.

  • Same issue here, I want to ensure that only stuff in my office connects to my office Eero, not all the stuff in the kitchen upstairs!

  • I have the same issue where my Harmony remote hub connects to a very remote eero and barely works.  Will get a closer one after I reboot it but a pain.  Need to assign to the one that is 20 feet away.  Upgraded to eero 6 and still same issue.

Hi Support team! We have all been having this same issue and to add a force function that allows a device to override and connect to a specific eero would be ideal. Please let us know the current status of this request as it has been open for several years!

    Thank you

  • I just bought 5 eeros to cover a huge house and connected 60+ smart devices (lights, switches ect) and most keep going offline because they are connecting to the farthest eero!! Come on eero team. I cannot keep resetting 60+ devices just to make them connect to a closest eero. Can you please at least provide a solution to this? I work in IT and words are spreading about this eero issue. You are losing customers!

  • At this point and 5 years, 3 generations and owned by Amazon, they aren’t fixing this issue. I voted in this topic with my wallet.

I have switched to Ubiquiti and haven’t looked back. These issues aren’t an issue any longer.

if anyone is interested in 4 gently used eero 6 pros with box and packaging, reach out via email at david@steinyd.org

  • This is currently the most voted for feature request that has not already been implemented or rejected.  Come on eero - make it happen.

  • Yea, I am still waiting. My generator will go offline because the signal is so bad, even though I have an AP 5 feet inside the wall. It is connected to the AP in the kitchen on the other side of the house. This is ridiculous.

  • What the 4311? How can this not be solved yet. I have now resorted back to a hardline because my work machine keeps connecting to the furthest away pod!

My speeds when connected to the closest eero are 456 down and 35 up but my machine keeps connecting to my daughters pod downstairs and across the house for 80 down and 15 up (on a good day). Seriously, I have been working remote since 2008 and after getting this eero system it has just been an 'f-n' struggle.

Sorry, Usually I am much more poised than this, but my meeting today was beyond a disaster due to eero connections.

eero- are you going to respond to any of us?

To all of you who posted about Ubiquiti - THANK YOU! I am going to give my eero away to some grandparents and chalk this up to me not doing my proper product research... Ubiquiti looks great! I will make the move.

  • Yep. I bought a single Pro 6E to replace by current gateway eero (Pro 6) when it was on sale for Prime Day. Still in the box as I investigate alternatives (leaning towards Ubiquiti). I have been hoping to see something from eero stating "Yes - we are going to make this available. It is priority #X with a target date of mo/yr." It would be even nicer if they would tell us on what they are working that is a higher priority and why. I put this over the browser interface issue - but it is definitely #2.

  • 5 years and still no solution. UNBELIEVABLE. I registered here only to say i regret so much spending $700 to buy this garbage Eero router. It was supposed to be one of the best but it doesn't even connect to the nearest access point! This is ridiculous!!!

I'm typing this outdoor from my laptop, my kitchen Eero is 6 feet away but my laptop is currently connected to the farhest away one. I just did a speedtest and i got 0.68mbps RIDICULOUS!!!! I connected to kitchen Eero and did another speedtest then I get over 200mbps. Literally 200 times the speed!!

I noticed that software maintenance is a big amazon-wide problem. I have over 100 alexa devices and there are so many missing features in the app it's unbelievable. It almost never gets updated. Amazon doesn't care about feature requests, they don't listen to their customers they just want to take your money. I bet the dev team is very underfinanced to cut costs and that's why the software sucks. They release a product then they don't care anymore and already start working on the next version to make more sales.

I will never buy an Amazon product again. I'm switching to Google Home and Ubiquiti. Good riddance Amazon.

VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED. Eero is a waste of money. High-end router missing basic features is a big no. I wish I found this thread before buying.

  • I just came across the same problem as well. 3 eero Pro6 in the house. Static devices like Google TV or Ring Pro doorbell or Nuki bridge. Everything is jumping arround all 3 partly like a rabbit and for whatever reason prefer the one most far away. Specific for my doorbell is a Desaster if I don’t get a notice Someone ring. After read here up down it seems I can stop thinking about get it fixed and mostly go for other System then. 5 years without proper solution is far beyond of what you should wait for this kind of expensive device.

  • I wish I had found this thread before spending nearly $700 on what is supposed to be a "State of the Art" system Seems nothing has been done in nearly 5 years.

Same issue here, I have devices that connect to the furthest away eero, not cool.

Extremly dissapointed in my new eero syste.

  • I can't believe that this request has been 5 years in the making? There are way too many people that are having the same issue with the clients, you would think that eero would step up and implement this feature. Especially since eero is owned by Amazon and the Amazon devices are the biggest culprit of having this issue.

  • My generator will always be in the same place in the backyard, as will my outdoor weather station, as will my light bulbs in each room...so eero needs a feature that allows each of these to be assigned to a specific access point, and eero needs a process that helps a device to find and connect to that preferred access point.

If there is an outage, of course each device will attempt to connect to any eero that's available regardless of whether it's the designated access point. In these instances, the eero that receives the request to connect should run a check to confirm whether it is the preferred/designated access point for that device - if not, it should refuse the connection and attempt to redirect it to the preferred access point. If the preferred access point is not available, there should be a cyclical process that "helps" the device find and connect to the preferred access point.

There are so many posts here from the past 5 years I'm not sure whether (or how many times) this idea has been repeated.

  • I have the same problem. Need the ability to set a preferred/default/fixed node for any device. When will this come out?!

    • sneaky Sadly, this problem has been reported I think going on 5-6 years now.  Eero has ignored every one of them.  I don't this will be resolved in our lifetime.

Better question to ask is WHAT BRAND IS THE BEST REPLACEMENT FOR EERO MESH NETWORK?

  • I’ve replaced my eeros with TP-Link Deco. Better price with better performance. They resolved my frustrations with eeros. Their app have a feature that allows you to disable roaming on a specific device which will prevent it from jumping into different nodes. It’s very helpful for smart devices that doesn’t really change locations.
