Outdoor Eero

Would like an Eero unit that can be placed in an outdoor weatherproof enclosure. Even though I have a hard-wired Eero 2nd gen placed next to the patio door, the outdoor range is not satisfactory. Rachio provides an outdoor enclosure for their wifi sprinkler controller and the hardware specs cover the typical temperature extremes for many parts of the country; hoping to see an outdoor capable unit from Eero. Thanks!

So Netgear has released a formal outdoor module for their mesh-network.
While it is on the pricey side of things; it is a start.... hopefully this will get some of the other vendors (hint hint eero), to understand there is a need/desire for a device like this out there.

I am currently getting away with having an eero module up against a window facing the backyard, but this really isn't the best solution.

I'm in NorCal and just ordered two of these... http://www.altelix.com/Altelix-14x11x5-Inch-PC-ABS-WiFi-Enclosure-p/np141105m.htm They customize them, so I had them include a sealed power cable from the outside to the inside and a powered fan (which is not shown in this picture). It does get hot here in the summer and the fan hopefully keeps things cooler.

gbdesai I just ordered one of those basic altelix boxes too.  How quick was their shipping?  Looks like a good deal.  What did you think of the quality?  I am heading up to install the 5 pc EERO system in a few days.  I think I only need one in it's own enclosure.  I'll post some photos and results.

wifipi Not super quick.  I think they just shipped it, I did ask for customizations, so I think it took longer than they anticipated.  Should have them in a day or two.

gbdesai Wow, it's already in FedEx possession and tracking shows a Tues delivery to upper Michigan not bad!  So these generic stock items process very quickly good to know.

Hey great find thanks!  I ordered a couple of these Tenda POE splitters with selectable output voltage and screw tab mounts.  These should power up the Eero’s remotely in those boxes.

This would be a great feature obviously, however in the meantime, I just place the beacon on the inside wall, closest to where I will be sitting outside, and it penetrates through the wall pretty good, as it’s closer. Just a work around until (or if) they ever implement this.

Chessmassacre  unfortunately that doesn't work that well for me. We have stonework on the outside walls that kills the signal pretty well. It only gets 10-20 feet beyond the wall.

I've had a Pro outside for several years here in the Texas weather.  No issues.

Finally after much trial & error I was able to find inexpensive POE splitters and a short power cables with the correct adapters on both ends.  About 6" long matches 6" ethernet patch cables I found also.  This is gen 1 which is just fine with me. If anyone wants details or photo shout out.

Heres one on Amazon.  Although their stock is soaring their serve really sucks right now.

Also just check back a ways on this thread as I see I already posted a picture of this device works great.

Note the mounting tabs on both the POE unit (unique to the Trendnet brand) and on the Ebay found Eero wall mounts.  This one is going in my condo's garage (some distance away)  so my in-vehicle iPods will automatically update.

wifipi Sounds good.. I bought the eero mount on Amazon. I'm going to install that and a poe injector and a eero pro in my attic on one side of the house.

The power cable I got from a china Ebay vendor (took about three weeks) has different size plugs on both ends, and what I found is the mm sizes are slightly different from vendor to vendor so it was a slight nightmare for awhile.  One example was the outside of the pin was correct but the inside was not.  I found two things that worked, first one was a cord same on both ends with an adapter plug, then I ultimately found these cords.  I think I still have the auction saved so let me know if you need that too.  This is pretty clean in the end and a WHOLE LOT cheaper than the guarded details of what an "authorized Eero installer" was charging (lol).

Thank you. Eero helped me find four authorized installers in the city. Three were either out of business or looked like trunk slammers. Really dumb not to sell the splitter.

txgunlover do you have under a roof, in a box, hard wired ? I was not willing to put it anywhere but I would take what you have set up and try it. 👍
