How to add Thread device and see it’s using Thread

Hi!

I have a eero Pro 6 (supposedly able to use Thread and the Thread toggle button turned on in the app). When I add a new device in the eero app I don’t see any option to add a Thread device.

i have the Thread device (Wemo Smart Plug equipped with Thread capability turned on. Nor in the eero app nor in the Apple Homekit app I can find a way to add it via Thread.

When I just add the device via WiFi it works properly, but now that I have two devices (eero + Wemo) that are suppose to talk with each other via Thread I want to take advantage of that obviously?

I know I should be promted for a network key, but no cigar.

Thanks you for your advice, S.

Thread creates its own encrypted mesh network for Thread-capable devices. Each Thread-capable eero then acts as a border router, providing connectivity between the Thread mesh network and your other wifi/ethernet devices.

Hopson195 Thank you for your reply. Do I understand right from your answer that:

      - using Thread goes automatically, no further steps are possible to force it for example?

      - there is no way to see in the app for example that Thread is being used?

      Thanks again, scw

In the Eve app, head to "Thread Network" in the Settings section to get a look behind the curtain of your Thread network and all the different roles and connections of your Thread-enabled accessories.

WendellW Thanks for your reply, but I don't have Eve. I use eero with Apple Homepod and Wemo Smart Plugs.

scw Thread is built into your Smart Plug. There are directions for adding and configuring the device in HomeKit, but you won’t see a traditional Wi-Fi connection or a MAC network address. If you want to view the Thread network devices and connections, get the Eve app (you don’t need an Eve device to use it). It would be great if eero would add an Eve section for display in the eero App as well.

Note that currently the Eve app is free.
