Support for the Desktop

I'd like to have the ability to manage eero from a desktop.  The phone apps were well thought out, and work well.  However, having the ability to do this from my laptop/desktop would be very useful for me anyway.  Either browser or (for me) a Windows 10 UWP would be awesome!

  • So, why is the second most-requested feature for this device so blatantly ignored? I kind of don't understand the logic behind this at all

1x04a Simple - not having it isn't negatively affecting sales. My guess - this product is targeted mainly at consumers who just want fast plug&play wifi and don't know / don't care about configuring their router.

  • I agree with this idea. I've switched from a Linksys router where admin access was via a browser. If your ISP goes down you can still access the router and the GUI provides status and a few rudimentary tools like ping and traceroute. Allows you to determine root cause.  Very handy.

  • And just to give my $0.02 worth (and the "lost sales" of >500 units).  I'm one of the senior engineers for a medium sized WISP where one of the things we do for our customers is supply in-house mesh routers.  A few years ago we reviewed the EERO against many others. Ultimately we dropped the EERO because of a lack of desktop (ie, browser) interface.  We've gone with the Google Pucks instead.  After installing more than 1,000 of these pucks, Google EOL the product, is trying to move a new version (read more expensive) so we are going about our review of mesh routers again.

The EERO got good marks in terms of its functionality, but again failed due to a lack of desktop interface.  So we're going with yet another product. Doing a preorder of 100 units this month and them moving another 1000 after initial field testing.

Since the #2 requested feature doesn't mean much to the EERO team, I'm pretty sure than even a few thousand unit sales isn't worth them bothering to add the feature. We've asked for it more than once. I think the only way anyone is going to bother even addressing the issue (ie, bothering to respond to anyone) is if you're in the >100k unit sales range. Then you *might* be listened to. Otherwise our experience has been that the EERO development/product marketing team is tone deaf.

Having been a software architect for several cell phone development companies, I totally understand the security model worries that were brought up, but there are ways around that (cell phone apps are actually less secure overall than controlled web pages) but EERO picked a direction and put "all the wood behind the arrow" so to speak.

After 3 years and more than a few reviews, I must say its been a worthless hope.  Moving most of my EEROs to EBay (to go along with my Wink2 home controllers).. The EERO is not a bad device, but it is impossible to manage on scale and worthless outside of a single individual user perspective.

  • I purchased the eero for my home a year or so ago because I liked their specs, but missed the fact they had no support for browser-based management. I hadn’t run across a router that didn’t so that never crossed my mind. Now, I recommend against eero to any customers, family, or friends because of this one shortcoming. Being a computer hardware and software engineer for decades, I don’t see how one could believe a dedicated cell phone app is more secure than a secure browser (that’s available for multiple devices). I am also one that manages all my tech from one browser-based dashboard. A browser is the common point no matter the device. I will not be limited to a small-screen pocket device for this one appliance. Unless I see eero come around, my upcoming upgrade & my recommendations will be for another brand. NOT A HAPPY CUSTOMER.

  • For those more technically-minded, there's a product called Bluestacks that is basically an Android virtual machine that runs on your desktop.  If you install it, you can download the Android mobile app for eero and monitor your mesh with that.  Not quite as good as a native Windows or MacOS app, but it works and accomplishes what folks are asking for.

RobA_CA  - That's a good idea and I tried it, only problem is I need to run virtual machines and Bluestacks won't run on a machine with virtualization enabled.

  • Just installed the new Eero 6 Pro - having no desktop app really sucks. Every modern application has mobile and desktop so please get real. I for one do not want to do system administration tasks from my mobile phone - maybe during a setup or alternate connection or an emergency. Plus there should be useful diagnostics, which I don't see anywhere and would probably suck on a mobile interface. I really can't recommend the product today to my network of geeks for this reason.

  • This is a mandatory feature, I spent literally hours to enter all the mac adress of my product that need to have a static IP...

  • Dear eero, your smart device setup and access to my three eeros is top notch, but put me down on the list also as I too want a web browser option as I currently dont have ANY smart device available to me at the moment.

  • Why? Everything else I have in my house (almost) has a web management interface to it from my broadband router to my pihole and everything inbetween. Every coroporate wifi system or network device I have ever worked on has a web interface. Imaging if Aruba or Meraki made you manage their wifi via a phone app? I know this isn't a corporate wifi system, but why dumb it down with phone-only?

  • FWIW, apparently it's under consideration, whatever that means. Here's what a co-founder said on Reddit recently:

    > We likely won’t do anything local for security reasons, but it’s something the team is considering.
    https://old.reddit.com/r/eero/comments/jdm8iz/best_way_to_set_up_my_new_eero_6_pros_from/g9aec3n/

Not holding my breath, but it's the closest to an acknowledgement that they are at least discussing it that I've seen thus far.

  • No reply in 4 years....Should ABSOLUTELY launch a browser desktop app for more control. I love how good eero works and it’s the first time in a long time that i had zero buyers remorse. But the lack of functions and setting is incredibly frustrating for PC gamers/nerds. I can’t get any updates and when i can they’re constantly paused. What should take a half hour turns into hours.... A more complex desktop app could easily solve the issues we all have... Please and thank you...

P.S. For this expensive of a product AND a subscription that is great but also bs your customers should undeniably have more control over their product along with more options to access that control... Y’all can do better than this....

  • In these pandemic times I had problems with my ISP on multiple occasions. I wasn't able to access my eero app. So I'd like to add that a web-based local webinterface would be nice. If I have a problem with my ISP then I cannot connect to my eero if the connection goes through the cloud. I could only access my eero locally.

I remember some arguments about security. These are all bogus since any server can enforce a specific encryption protocol. In addition, if the connection is on my local network (and not via cloud/Internet), it is by definition more secure.

Can we please have a local web-based interface to the eero so we're not cut off when Internet is down?

  • Kindly reconsider adding support to manage via browser.  Purchased my eero pro over 2 years ago prior to Amazon acquisition and been an eero+ subscriber.  As my kids are getting older, I am reconfiguring things for better parental controls....and truly surprised to see no progress in terms of managing via a web browser.

My eero experience has generally been great/stable (only a few speed reporting issues in 2019).

However, out of frustration due to lack of web configuration, I found myself researching alternatives on the market today.

Understand that this might have been difficult in the earlier days due to prioritization....but surely Amazon can solve for this request in a secure way.

Kindly reconsider adding support to manage via browser.  Thanks!

  • This is 2021, why does the app not work with M1 Apps? It's literally a check box... Please, please check the box. Make it available in the app store. This is just stupid at this point.

Please, please, please make this a universal iOS App and check the box people.

txgunlover Not quite true, Apple's share of the US market is almost 15% at this point, up from the historic 10% level. But that's not the point, the point is that 15% of a large number is a large number. I'd love to have the eero app on my mac mini desktop :-).

By the way, the M1-based mac mini makes a good desktop.

  • All other brands have a browser (web) interface allowing support from ANY device, not just Android! I and many others I work[ed] with are Apple desktop/device fans, and a desktop app would be nice! But, a browser interface would be perfect for supporting the masses. Any talk of Android app being more secure is a bunch of bull. It's all on how it is built and implemented. SUPPORT ALL OF US BY BUILDING A SECURE BROWSER INTERFACE. GET IT DONE IN 2021.

  • Hey Eero, this feature has 300+ up votes and has been requested for 4 years. What on earth is your justification for not even planning to implement? Don't fall victim to the mindset that you know better than your customers. The Voice of the Customer couldn't possibly be clearer here! Disregard what your customers want at your own peril...
