Feature request: Dedicated iPad app

You need to update the Eero app to be a Universal app and improve the display to better handle iPad-sized screens. Once I went past 3 Eeros (currently have 7), I need to horizontally scroll to see all the Eeros.

shoek I really don’t understand the reluctance from eero to create a ‘universal’ a[p that will work on all iOS devices as no web interface is provided

Hi, Yufasa – it seems like there's some confusion here. The eero app currently is available on all iOS devices, we simply don't offer a dedicated iPad version of the app. If you filter your App Store search results for iPhone apps, you can download the eero app on your iPad – it works as a scaled-up version of the phone app. If you'd prefer to use an iPad for the app, that option is very much available to you!

      Kindly,
      Drew, eero Community Team

Drew unfortunately, this is not what anyone wants of this feature request, for the following reasons:

      - most users won't know to change their AppStore settings to show iPhone apps on iPad

      - the iPhone app on the iPad is only portrait; this doesn't work well if you have a keyboard with your iPad

      - the iPhone app on the iPad shows less on screen than the iPhone app does on larger iPhones.  For instance, on my iPhone X I see all 5 of my Eero devices but when running the iPhone app on iPad I only see 3.

Either way, I see this is an accepted feature request so hopefully all these +1's will bubble it to the top of your backlog.

shoek Thanks for your feedback. My comment wasn't intended to dismiss any of the reasons or preferred use-cases for wanting a dedicated iPad app – I was simply explaining to our fellow community member that app availability on iPad exists in some form :)

      Drew lol.

come on, is a native iPad app that big of an ask?

      Like
  • Yes, you can get the iPhone app on the iPad.  However, the "experience" is subpar and less than desirable as mentioned above.  I seriously hope this will be addressed since it is accepted and Apple makes it easy for developers to have universal apps.

  • I'm a refuge from the web desktop thread...if there is no plan for a web interface then please update your apps (Android/iOS) to be universal/tablet aware.  Throw us a bone for landscape mode please.

  • Would love to see support for iPad.  Apple makes it very easy to use universal binaries. I have an iPad Pro and would love it to be my main hub to manage my eeros. Obviously, the blown up iPhone version looks terrible on iPad.

  • I’d like to add my support to this as well. I use my iPad Pro quite a bit and would love a dedicated iPad Eero app! Please reconsider making one!

  • Yeah. I want landscape viewing for my iPad. I have a sleeve on my iPad that doubles as a stand and it is for landscape mode. I hate having to hold my iPad like a big cellphone while at work using both hands to type with.

  • I am also in total agreement here... I just recently bought a Eero setup and while its nice to have an iPhone  app on my phone, I use my iPad a whole lot more and would certainly like to have a native iPad app that takes advantage of the whole screen and not just a bloated version of the iPhone app. Now, to my knowledge Apple has made creating universal apps a breeze... So I'm wondering why Eero Support has been twirling there thumbs on this? The last post I saw about it was from a year ago... Surely it doesn't take that long to make an app universal since again, Apple has made this very easy. There are plenty of us that want it and we are YOUR CUSTOMERS!! Which means that without our business you wouldn't have one in the first place. Please take the time to listen to this feedback and make your customers happy. ;-)

imjoey you’re exactly correct that this is beyond insane at this point.  They haven’t had issues developing Eero plus to extract additional revenue, when Apple provides universal binaries that they are simply not utilizing.

I like the product, but will not add any additional access points until they get the software up to snuff.  I would really like for Eero to post an honest update as to why nothing has taken place in a year on this - it’s ridiculous

imjoey Glad you weighed in.  It’s beyond ludicrous at this point.  I’ve actually stopped recommending Eero to family and friends because of this.  Who the heck wants to manage this system from a phone only?  The iPad continues to evolve and Apple offers universal binaries and Eero does nothing.

      So frustrates.

David C. sure would - it’s the one feature several of us have been crowing about for at least a year.  It’s becoming a primary device.

David C. Does Eero have any plans here?  It’s been crickets on this front from anyone at Eero, and it makes no sense to me at all.  For this price point, this seems like a given.

rcooked Like you said below, iPad is a primary device for atleast me but I’m thinking this is the same for many others as well. To me, this doesn’t seem to be such a big ask of the company.

David C. It shouldn’t matter if we would recommend your product or not if you decided to support iPad. What matters is supporting a mobile device which is in that hands of your customers and in turn for doing the right thing... maybe you wouldn’t have to ask that question in the first place. Just a thought.

imjoey rest assured, that's exactly what matters to us. In this case, I asked simply because I was curious if iPad support is the only issue blocking rcooked 's recommendation, or if there are other things we should know, too.

David C. believe it or not but not everyone has a smartphone. And to use your app in blown up version of a smartphone app is absolutely hideous to use. To me this is something that you should be able to see. I read a few post and understand why you wouldn’t want to have a computer or web access version for security reasons, but most of us either have a smartphone tablet of some sorts. Maybe even both. But those of us with both, I’ll spend most of my time on the larger screen device and that is where I’d like to see a native app. Not a hideous blown up version that is hard to use. Besides wanting to see native vpn on router support this issue (iPad Support) is at the top of my list.

David C. what I don’t get is the lack of any explanation for not supporting it?  If it’s planned, why no updates.  Apple makes it easy....

  • It is almost like Eero have never heard of Apple but insist they support administration only with mobile devices.  Weird, eh?

  • What makes you think that eero is going to do anything about this issue? This topic has been going on for a year, and nothing has happened. I approximate 60 eero-customers here are interested, and nothing has happened. Wake up, all companies are here to make more and more money. Do you think restaurants are run for your health and wellbeing?

svami They probably won’t.  However, as some who has their product in two houses with a total of 9 in use, I used to recommend it all the time.  I’m not until they get their bucket of crap together and use the universal binaries to address this simple issue.

Not recommending the product will have an impact, and hopefully make them reconsider.  Tablets are becoming a primary device, and it’s ridiculous I’m tied to my phone only.

long story short, they are lazy about this and I’m done championing a half baked product app wise.

I hope I’m wrong, but they have demonstrated they don’t care either.

  • It really is sad a universal app has not been made yet.  Apple makes a very simple API to use for this.  Most apps out there are universal or have a dedicated iPad version. This isn’t hard.

  • Hi, y’all —

This is Drew with the eero Community team. We’re excited to share that with eero app version 2.23, available today, we have introduced native iPad support!

With our iPad version, we are introducing a new unique layout that takes full advantage of the increased screen size, and we think you’ll find it a breeze to navigate and use.

We want to thank everyone for your continuous feedback and contributions to this thread and the greater eero community. It really makes a difference, not just for those here, but for everyone that uses eero.

The activity here hasn’t gone unnoticed, and while we were tempted to share more as new posts came in, we had to wait until the official release. We thank you for your patience and understanding as we’ve worked towards building this new way to experience eero.

Again, we’d just like to share our thanks for all your ideas and insights, and for voicing your support for different features. Since launching the community, requests have been pouring in, and our team is continually evaluating this feedback with what to build next.

    We hope you enjoy!

Drew Again, Thanks for knocking this out.  I know I have been a vocal critic because of this, but this will make life a lot easier for those of us using the iPad as a primary device, and hopefully make it more palatable for folks who that is their only device.  I haven't had a lot of time to explore it, but it looked nice on the new iPad and will make life easier.

Thanks again for putting in the effort to knock this out.

  • It is nice to have an iPad version of the eero app. This is my first impression of it. I feel that the app was designed by/for a 20 year old kid who can easily read the gray thread-like vermicelli fonts. Of course, a 20 year old could not afford a four hundred dollar eero, so the app is not for the right audience. I being older can easily afford and have six eeros. However, being older, I can’t easily read the new upgraded app. If the app were designed with apple’s ‘Dynamic Type’ in mind both the young and old would be happy.
