Eero Plus Advanced Security with Specific DNS Servers

This is a challenging one. I am an Eero Plus subscriber, but I'm unable to use Advanced Security features, since they override the network's defined name servers.

I'd love to see the feature re-worked such that it intercepts requests for known bad-behaving records, but still refers to the networks' defined name servers for all other requests. This would allow things like DNS-based "VPN" services (like unblock.us or unlocator) to keep working with Advanced Security enabled.

Just ran into the same thing with unlocator. Won’t let me override it device by device either? Hrm.

I’d love to know if this makes the list of potential future fixes. For the past several months, eero+ has only been useful to me as a mechanism to get 1Password for Families and and occasional encrypt.me use. I have the eero+ DNS features disabled by support. I would love to make use of them.

Jeff C.  7 months and crickets. Any hope for those of us who want to use custom name servers, but still get the benefits of eero+?

Sorry for the delayed response. This topic must have slipped past me.

As for this request, it isn't something we currently plan to do given how the advanced security functions of eero Plus work. In order to use these features, they need to pass through the Zscaler DNS to ensure all traffic is protected against threats as well as enabled content filters.

If you'd like to use your own DNS, you can still take advantage of the eero Plus features including ad blocking and the partner applications.

Jeff C. Thanks, Jeff. AFAIK, the only way to get Ad blocking is with eero+ DNS (zScaler) enabled. Is that incorrect?

Sorry about that, I misspoke. When using Ad Block, it too will go through the zScaler DNS. I'll be happy to share the feedback with the team.

Are there any features you currently use from another DNS server that you are looking to use in combination with eero Plus? This is always helpful for us to share as we are always evaluating future features of eero Plus.

Jeff C. There are, but it's a business that I doubt you guys want to get into. I use either Unlocator or Unblock.us to circumnavigate geographic blocks for things like MLB.tv . I'd rather that my defined name servers become the forwarders for all domains that aren't being acted on by the zScaler.
