Port 10001 is open on shieldsUP!

I was under the impression having a firewall ensured that no ports would ever be open from the internet. shieldsUP custom port probe of port 10001 is showing as open! Protocol is “Scp-config”

i don’t like it when ports are open! I’m an EeroPlus subscriber as well.

I’m running on EeroPro generation 1 with latest firmware and EeroApp version

Here is the link to probe the port:

Ive seen a couple Reddit threads from the past week with same issue.

Its hard to test every single one of the 65,000 ports but port scanners will surely find one in seconds.

Any thoughts?

  • I'm seeing the same thing. Just installed the eero at home and 10001 is open to the public. Trying to figure out how to disable.

epuentes You can’t disable it. But I’ve been assured by support that my network is protected. I believe it is used for initial setup and configuration. I don’t know why it needs to be left open though.

stego I also found port 3001 open and after reading through the privacy policy I’ve decided to return the eero product. They’re also collecting data and found the product to be intrusive under the name of security. I prefer more control with regard to my network security. With that said, great hardware and it worked flawlessly besides the aforementioned.

epuentes hmm. That shows closed for me. I assume you were running latest firmware.

I consult routersecurity.org for advice and while he doesn’t recommend consumer grade routers, I didn’t find any glaring reports or findings on Eero on his site.

I used to run an Asus router flashed with Merlin I’m bridge mode sitting behind a Sophos XG firewall running in an old PC. While I enjoyed the added security, it was a pain to manage.

Eero provides easy management and excellent security I think compared to other consumer grade routers. Better than what I was running before? Probably not, but I think what I had before was way overkill for what I needed.  I’m not a security or networking specialist either so I was gambling a little on my abilities to properly configure and secure my Sophos firewall.

At the end of the day, I prefer a set it and forget it approach to my home network and rely on Eeros security team to automatically update my firmware when required.

stego I’m running the latest updates. I really appreciate your insight and you’ve been incredibly helpful. Those ports being open and the data collection coupled with terms in the privacy policy I’m returning my eero. Thanks again!
