It won't keep my game systems on 5 g constantly, and it makes me lag. I have 1 gig if speed why does keep putting it on 2.4 most of the time

Gaming systems won't stay 5g. Why do I have to reconnect multiple times to do so? I have the fastest internet I never had this problem when I could choose what device's I wanted on preferred frequency and it's lagging my TVs too. How can you fix this?

    Hello,

The device connecting to your eero network decides if it is going to connect to 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz. We would need to take a look at your network and topology before coming to any conclusion on what might be the cause of this behavior. Some general steps you can take are to forget and rejoin the network, restart your eero network, and ensure there is no interference between your device and the eero.

If you are still experiencing this behavior after that please reach out to our support line. I have included a link below that will help you find the best number to call. You can also direct message me your email and email support@eero.com regarding this behavior and I can take a look at it as well.

I’m told this is a known issue resulting from the eero not having separate SSIDs for each band and that you all are working on a solution. Can you please provide an update?

What you will want to do on the eero side is go to eero app->Settings->Network Settings and make sure Client Steering is on.  That is the part of eero that tries to encourage (but cannot require) devices to connect to 5 ghz instead of 2.4 ghz).  If that doesn't do it, try getting the gaming console and eero a bit closer together.  If that doesn't do it see if there is a way on the console to have it use 5ghz instead of 2.4, I know you can on the Playstation 5 (I've done it with my own personal one), but I do not know if that is possible on the Xbox.  If you cannot we would recommend hardwiring the console to the eero via ethernet if you can.  Hardwired is always preferable to wireless, it can give higher speed and there is less latency.

Yes, I have client steering on, the unit is close to the devices, and the problems persist. If I wanted a hard-wired connection, I would not need an eero. I’m asking for a status update on the work being done within eero to address this poor engineering problem. I’m told by my internet provider that this is a known issue that eero is working to solve. What is the status of this work?

We are always working on improving our devices and performance.  However, this issue is caused by the gaming console deciding to switch to 2.4 instead of 5ghz.  That is not something that the eero can control.  The device itself decides which band it wants to use.

Actually, that’s not the problem. By assigning a single SSID to both bands, eero engineers made it impossible to force band selection on any device. That is the problem. It’s not the problem of the thousands of devices pre-existing and new that are designed to select an SSID band. You supposedly have an internal group working on this. Perhaps you could facilitate an update from someone on that team, rather than trying to deflect and gaslight. You’ve got Amazon resources now, which should be deployed to fix this problem.

We do have a feature request put in to separate the bands to separate SSIDs, so far that ability has not shown up yet.  We do not have any eta for any feature request.

Exactly. So why not respond to questions about the problems caused by this known issue with updates on how the effort to enable differentiation of SSID band is coming along? Then customers will know what to request and eero will have a better understanding of the magnitude of the problem. This is a huge flaw in the design that causes frustration for countless customers. Instead of acknowledging the issue, support deflects and misinforms (perhaps disinforms, really). Own the problem and update us on what’s being done to fix it.

We have not announced any timetable for separate SSIDs to happen and we do not comment on features that have been requested.
